Just watched the arrival at Baldonnel on TV.
What a fantastic military operation, played out before the world!
Excellent turnout and drill from all services!
Sincerely hope the rest goes as well!
We all know the effort that preceded this ...well done all!
They did us proud!

As much as I love the very bricks and morter of those hangers, the history oozing out of the very fabric of each building, I have to say they were not meant for the servicing or even housing of modern aircraft!
The gaps in the brickwork actually let in daylight!!
With the Alouettes,in winter,we had to push them out on the ramp to warm them up!! :)
I never envied the technicians having to work in those conditions!! It's a remarkable tribute to their dedication and skill that they turned out servicable aircraft day after day!
It will be sad to see any of them demolished,it will change the whole character of the Don!
But such is life...an analogy I often used with the Dauphins was.. it was like buying a £5000 stereo and putting it in your coalshed!! :)

We had an Alouette and a Gazelle on a stand in the RDS at one time!! can't remember the dates! Great fun manning the stands!! we were stood at the front of the Alouette and suddenly the whole aircraft started rocking back and forth!!!... went around the aircraft to find a dad showing his son how flexible the blades were by swinging on the starboard side blade!!... Pillock!!! :)
At the end of the second last day, we were putting the equipment on display into the aircraft for the night.
It included an inflated one man liferaft, and as a certain crewman lifted it from the floor,he stood on the activation lanyard and blew the bottle!!! The discharging bottle in an already inflated raft caused a bang that could be heard back in Baldonnel!!! we stood there, in shock, as bits of raft materiel and talc rained down around us!! :) We were like snowmen!!!:) Nice one Dicko!!! :)

Hi Tony,
Hope you are doing well!
We had a lovely gathering of family and friends at the memorial in Tramore on the 2nd,and then walked down to the site together.
Lovely to see the gang gathered again, and still amazed and humbled by the strength, caring and dignity, of the families!
Hard to believe it was 11 yrs ago!
Take care.
John.

Thanks for that Frank!!! :tounge:
We even replaced the BAP long before that!!!
It was too big to carry in our flying suit pockets...so they gave us the  7.65 mm Walther PPK!!
I loved shooting that pistol! but liked the old Bap as well!!
