Was going through my Fouga collection and found this. A brochure from 1997 with all the autographs and a picture of 217 in Belgium '<img'>

somewhere in Belgium. don't know which airshow they visited that year. year is 1997 I think. I don't think it's Koksijde or Beauvechain. That leaves Florennes and Kleine Brogel. Isn't there an ex-swallows pilot on this forum? Maybe he remembers?

Yes it was Florennes airshow in belgium,i was part of the tech crew that flew with the swallows,baldonnel-liverpool-cambridge-ostend-florennes,so many stops for fuel safety mainly,one of the best trips i think the swallows were on,it was brill.Very good show red arrows,on the first day,spanish of turk's on the second.Beechcraft flew in on last day to fly tech support home. 'thumbsup'
I feel the need,the need for speed!!!!

Yes, I also have that brochure (actually I have two of them IIRC).

It's a pity that the IAC never released a 'squadron print' (for sale) of the Fouga as shown on that brochure?!

Yes, Florennes. Great show, and the best after-show entertainment in the history of airshows. On arrival, parked airplanes, 4 Ferraris pulled up, driven by blonde persons bearing Belgian Beer, who took us away to show reception. Heaven!!!!!
A serious show however, it was the first show in Europe after the fatality one of the Jordanian Falcons in Ostend. If the conduct of the flying displays was off the mark, there might have been no more European airshows. Anyway, it all went well, back in time for tea,  medals, Duvel beer etc........

hi all
I worked in Belgium for a time and met a guy who was a reserve lieutenant based at Florennes.He had built an ingenious railcar, powered by a Honda 50 engine, which he used to drive along the NATO railways around the base.He brought me on a trip on it and we went for miles along the network, which was used solely by NATO and the Rail company for freight.Any time he was ever asked about his trips, he told them he was carrying out a rail inspection(he used to wear his uniform). We stopped in one very long tunnel, which was quite eerie and  which turned out to be the tunnel Hitler had stopped his battle train, whilst directing the Blitzkrieg in the West.The rail network linked all the NATO countries and was kept under military control.He was very enthusiastic about the Air Corps, given the commonality of equipment with the BAF.If anyone from out there recognises him, he was/is the son of an hotelier from Fleurus and a decent skin.

          Wasnt the trip to Leuchers not better, what with the pi#@ing rain and having to dry out the electrics with a hair dryer before startup!! LOL!!!
          Hows things? Not missing much in the don other than the new helis!

My grey matter is failing me a bit, but Leuchars wasn't too wet, just fairly windy. V Diff to display on the day.

The P%#$ing rain was in Woodford, the show was an absolute write-off.  I certainly recall the hairdriers out over there (and I don't mean the Marbore hairdriers), I think we might have gotten as far as the holding point, but we certainly didn't get airborne: 30kt on-crowd wind and lashing rain!
The Red Arrows got airborne for about 30 seconds, but soon thought better of it. The party started early that year!
