« on: April 05, 2005, 11:43:53 am »
Also one other question, no doubt the press-ups and sit-ups will be in the gym, but where do they do the run - is it on a treadmill in the gym or is there a course set out somewhere ?

Does anybody know just how strict they are on the fitness assessment ? i understand the run is a pass or fail test, and you need to do 20 sit-ups and press-ups but after that is everything just an assessment? like the BMI test etc. are they failable or just noted ??

Nobody had mentioned the Lynx in this debate, surely it is an option, the new Lynx 300 has an all glass cockpit....... can carry nine passengers, has a good range etc... and the Lynx is already in service around the world .....

Irish Air Corps / S-61 Lease
« on: February 05, 2004, 11:54:01 am »
another point i noticed from the report it states that the S-61 lease costing a total of €16.3 million isin't completed until 2005 will the aircorps now be continuing with the lease or will it return the aircraft early and hope to save the money in order to spend it elsewhere - or more to the point will they have a choice, no doubt the DOD will have an opinion......

Irish Air Corps / Future Spending
« on: February 05, 2004, 11:44:20 am »
From reading the Defence Forces 2002 annual report it shows that €16 million was allocated to the PC9 project in 2002 with a further €44 million remaining which should be completed by 2004 (end of presumably) this means that an average of €20 million euro has been spent each year on new aircraft for the last 3 years (2002-2004). Not to mention the €6-7 million spent on the Learjet that came out of other defence savings.

So from this can we expect a similiar expenditure in the coming years, and how much will the light heli fleet replacement programme consume? also what is likely to be the next replacement priority ofter the light helis?

Irish Air Corps / Air Corps Training
« on: February 02, 2004, 09:28:35 am »
On the NCO side of things whilst leading a sec in an attack might not be part of their everyday work it does help to develop leadership skills etc, also it is worth noting that air corps personnel to serve overseas with the army in army type roles.....
As  far as officers go an air corps cadet only does the first 7+ months of army cadet training which is all about moulding the individual in to a potential leader and of course introducing them in ot the rigours of military life.
