Title: Air Corps applicants
Post by: matt_k on December 21, 2004, 01:37:49 pm
On average, how many people apply to be pilots in the Air Corps per year??

The reason I ask is that I was reading that article about Air Corps life and it says that they take in only 6 pilots per year and I just want some idea of the scale of the competition.

400-500 was the figure I was quoted out of the 1000+ who applied for the cadetships last year.

You've as much chance as anyone else, and none if you don't apply.

As with all jobs, some of the applicants won't meet the criteria, some will louse up the application form & get binned & some will have only applied for the craic & won't turn up for the interview.

Thanks, It was only my quircky sense of humour, and hopefully if I really want the Air Corps, I'll get it in a few years time.
In answer to Matt_K's question,

1. I'm only in 2nd year, believe it or not!
2. A Guy In My School Did One! Out At Baldonnel,
I don't really know how you meant it, my best guess is no. 1!

Thanks for your comments- I aim to please aviators.
I have so far developed the website in a friendly way of if anyone has any aviation history of interest; allowing them to send it to me, so I can build Ireland's First Online Historical Aviation Archive. On the subject- The history of the Air Corps and interesting stories about life in The Irish Air Corps on my website is very incomplete...

Thanks Again,
Byron  :)

Just send them to me @ aviheritage@eircom.net, and I'll post them up on my website within a few days- also tell me what you would like me to call the page- something like "Guinness... "The Way Things Were" !!!,

And If any one else wants anything of interest put up on my website- such as details, history articles, humour, etc. related to Irish Aviation in the past, including Irish airmen & pilots who served overseas, just send it to me- If in any doubt, just view my policy report on my website, your information is in safe hands!

Thanks Again for everyone's help,
 :)
