Well it looks like it will be going ahead again and at Fairford, thank god! This was posted on their site yesterday and things look pretty promising. :applause:
"AIR TATTOO PLANNING ON TRACK
The planning is well underway for next year’s Royal International Air Tattoo which will take place at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on the 18 & 19 July. We are currently looking at a number of initiatives that we hope will minimise the risk of a repeat of this summer, when severe flooding led to the event being cancelled for the first time in its 38-year history.
Air Tattoo Director Tim Prince said plans for 2009 were on track and the feedback he has received following his team’s recent visit to more than 30 embassies in London gave cause for cautious optimism regarding the range of aircraft that could be expected to take part in July.
“The support we have received from the public, our sponsors, the Royal Air Force, the US Air Force and other international air arms has been overwhelming and I have been left in no doubt that the event continues to mean as much to each of them as it does to us and our parent charity.
Traditionally, we all get pretty excited during the build up to each airshow but I think the excitement and anticipation for next summer’s airshow will be something special.
Next summer’s airshow will mark the 60th Anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), showcasing aircraft that represent the wide variety of tasks performed by the Alliance.
Maritime patrol and surveillance aircraft from around the world are also being invited to take part in Sea Search 09, the Air Tattoo’s operational theme.
Special Earlybird tickets for next summer’s Royal International Air Tattoo will go on sale in early December. The full range of ticket prices for next summer’s Airshow will be announced at the same time. Earlybird tickets will be available to purchase until February 28, 2009."
Can't wait will booking accomadation in the next week or two.

Hi Vulcan
I hope they take last year's flooding very seriously.
Unfortunaly neither the USAF nor the RAF own the land used for the carparks so I guess a lot of negotiating will need to done with the land owners.
And I hope the current economic turmoil won’t hinder the show too much
On a brighter note at least the fuel should be a lot cheaper plus NATO will be given a chance to flex their muscles at this year's event so to speak!!!
-
Joey, how are you? Just ordered my tickets for next year. Although they have gone up, for us here in Euro zone, they are cheaper than last year. Accomadation all sorted and looking for ward to it already. By the way, the first confirmation of an aircraft looks likely to be a Dutch Coastguard Do 228-218 un the theme sea search 2009.
Hopefully we'll see you there.
-
Hi vulcan
I'll be ordering my tickets this week and hopfully get acommodation sorted i was thinking of the b+b you suggested last time hopfully it won't be booked out sure ill work somthing out looking forward already
-
Accomodation & Tickets sorted roll on july!!!! :buttrock:
-
I see the Vulcan has been pencilled in for Riat 09 for the 2 days
Fingers crossed that they recieve the funding required to keep her flying
-
I'm hoping the Vulcan willbe there aswell. Shame its looking doubtful wewill see any Raptors this year as they are at Daytona, the show they flew back for last year. They are down for Paris in June though. Its looking highly likely that there will be 2 F-18's one swiss and one spanish, hopefully flying. First list due before the end of Feb, so looking forward to seeing if there will be any show stoppers in there.
-
Looks now as if the 2 Hornets have been confirmed as flying, which is nice. Swiss PC-7 team, RAF Solo Hawk and Dutch Coastguard Dornier Do 228-212, also pencilled in.
-
I just stumbled upon this news on Flightline UK don’t know how reliable the page is but it will a big disappointment if the RAF Role Demonstration is pulled
For me it was one of the highlights of the show
What a shame
the segment reads:
The RAF WILL NOT present it’s Role Demonstration in 2009 due to the lack of available particpants for the Role Demonstration. The Tornado GR4 force is preparing to take over operations in Afganistan from the Harrier force and is no longer able to commit aircraft or aircrews to the demonstration.
The more encouraging news is that the RAF Display Teams and solo display will all be back in 2009:-
• Red Arrows
• Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
• RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team (the team will be making more use of civilian aircraft as the C- 130 force is still kept busy supporting forces overseas
• Typhoon solo
• Hawk solo
• Tucano solo
• King Air solo
• Tutor solo
With the exception of the King Air, all solo displays will perform a similar number of displays to 2008. The King AIr had a very successful first year on the circuit, and the team will be committed to more events in 2009
here's the link to the site http://www.airshows.org.uk/news/?p=274
The fact that it's not on the RIAT official site Suggest they may have something else planned, or the're holding out to ensure good ticket sales
too early to speculate
-
First participation list out on Friday. Lets hope for something nice.

Hi Vulcan
I’m presuming that you’ve read my last post , what do you think?
Fingers crossed the US send a Raptor to the party It looked pretty impressive …er... Last year on Youtube that is

Some nice stuff there alright, but cant help thinking that it's a pretty dull first list by RIAT standards. There is nothing there with the "wow" factor, but we do also have 2 F-18's flying one Spanish and one Swiss, how many air shows can boast that alone. Most air shows would be happy enough with this list as a finalline up.

Lets hope the Vulcan makes it. They have to have a million by Friday to save it and at this moment (2 days to go) they have £710,000. Would be nice to see something really nice in the next up date expected on 13th.

Now up to £924,000.....looking good
-
There's a few months yet left of surprises, The Vulcan would be a WOW Factor if it received the funds on time
Also the official RIAT 2009 poster has been released and it clearly shows an F22 Raptor in the center so hopefully it will make an appearance if it's part of NATO it should be included
-
Vulcan is saved, (for this season at least) and will be one of my main points of interest at RIAT this year. I'm hoping for a Raptor as well, but the 2007 poster also had a picture of a Raptor but it did'nt appear. Fingers crossed anyway. I suppose we should be glad that we have a RIAT after last year, and I'm still looking forward to it.
-
I must remind myself not to take posters at face value
Anyway great news regarding the vulcan. I'd like to get good pics of her upclose if that's possible. :buttrock:
fingers & toes crossed she gets to fly on the two days
That good news has made my day
-
Harrier display for RIAT :buttrock: First season for 3 years, great addition. :applause:
-
Looks very much like we will get an Algerian aircraft, most likely a Herc. It will be the first time Algeria have been to RIAT and will be the 51st country to exhibit at RIAT. Will know for sure by Friday.
-
Harrier display for RIAT :buttrock: First season for 3 years, great addition. :applause:
I think the Harriers are a replacement for the Tornado GR4 crews who preparing to take over operations in Afganistan
This may be the reason for their dislpay this year

I understand that it will be a tiger meet at this years show
I know, it was down as one of the themes alright but it seems to have disappeared from the RIAT site now. Just seen on the Breitling Jet Team site that they have RIAT down on their list. I saw them at Biggin Hill last year and was quite impressed by them.
-
Hi again vulcan
I was wondering if the IAC would bring anything to the party?
isn't one or the themes this year Sea Search 09 maybe the IAC would send their CASA since it's involved in maritime duties or even one of our A139s
It would be nice to see an irish representation of some sort
flying or static

RIAT Press Release 20th March 2009
-----------------------------------------
AIR TATTOO WELCOMES 51st NATION ON BOARD
The Algerian Air Force will make its Royal International Air Tattoo debut this summer – bringing to 51 the number of countries that have taken part in the Cotswold airshow since it was first held in 1971.
Securing a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft from Algeria is a coup for the Air Tattoo as it is rare for aircraft from Africa to take part in UK airshows. From the continent, only South Africa and Morocco have sent aircraft in the past.
Rob Windsor, the Air Tattoo’s Head of Aircraft Operations, said Algeria’s participation reflected the excellent reputation the airshow has built up over the years around the world.
He said: “For more than three decades, international air arms have seen the Air Tattoo as a valuable place to meet, build relationships and exchange ideas. It’s particularly pleasing when we have nations joining us for the very first time and it will definitely be something the aircraft enthusiasts will be looking forward to.”
The Air Tattoo will also be welcoming a number of aircraft that are returning following last summer’s cancellation due to flooding. Among them are Portugal’s aerobatic display team the Asas de Portugal, the RAF Red Arrows plus US Air Force aircraft including the B-1B and B-52 bombers.
Mr Windsor said: “Despite their obvious disappointment, aircraft operators who took part last year appreciated our reasons for having to cancel. During the winter, we have introduced a number of initiatives that we believe will minimise the risk of us having to cancel again and we now look forward to opening our gates once again in July.”
This summer’s Air Tattoo, which takes place on July 18-19, will mark the 60th anniversary of NATO. The focus will also be on international maritime patrol and search & rescue aircraft which will fly in as part of the airshow’s Sea Search theme.
Special cut-price tickets for the Air Tattoo are available until March 31, priced £30.95. Under-16s go free. For details and regular updates on participating aircraft, visit http://www.airtattoo.com

Yet more disappointing news :(
2009 RAF Tucano Display Season CANCELLED
It Quotes;
Thursday, March 19th, 2009
Posted by Sqn Ldr Andy Pawsey (Light Blue Spy) on UKAR:-
“Regret to announce that the 2009 RAF Tucano display season has been cancelled.
Not a decision taken lightly. All possibilities have been explored but none are viable. Looking forward to seeing Mike back as the 2010 RAF Tucano display pilot.”
Unquote

Very sad to see any acts going by the way side, and I reckon there could be a few more before the years out. Looks like we will have to go Via Dublin this year as the only flight on the 17th from Shannon arrives in Bristol till 22.30. That would mean not arriving in Swindon till midnight at the earliest. So we may bump into you. where are you staying?
-
The reason the Tucano got cancelled this year is due to the fact that the display pilot crashed while practising his routine, he ejected and is fine but the display is cancelled for the year. There are some air shows in the UK hoping to still have the painted display aircraft on static display (the aircraft that crashed was a plain Tucano).
Regards,
Frank.

This is the third up date for this years RIAT, out today. These are the additions and not the full line up. A cracking update IMO, A flying french Rafale and the Dutch F-16 demo with that supurb new colour scheme. Not to mention an extra 1 or 2 harriers flying. Looking good, roll on July. Looks as though the tiger theme is being replaced by the Navy 100 theme.

This was on both RIAT & Flghtline official sites
Royal Navy Air Power Demo at Air Tattoo
One of the biggest displays of Royal Navy airpower will be staged at this summer’s Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire to mark 100 years of naval aviation.
More than 40 fixed wing and rotary aircraft, from training squadrons and the front line as well as from the Royal Navy Historic Flight, will combine in unique formations in a dramatic demonstration of Fleet Air Arm aviation during the past century.
The Fleet Air Arm is the Royal Navy’s air force, operating around 200 combat aircraft and more than 50 support/training aircraft. They provide the Royal Navy with a multi-role airborne combat capability in all environments, day and night, over the sea and land.
At the Air Tattoo, rare naval aircraft such as the Swordfish, Sea Hawk and Sea Fury will share the skies with their modern counterparts such as the iconic Harrier and the Jetstream. Also taking part will be Lynx and Sea King squadrons, a variety of training aircraft plus the Royal Navy helicopter display team The Black Cats.
Head of Aircraft Operations Rob Windsor said it was a great honour for the Air Tattoo to be chosen as one of only three events in the UK where the mass flypast would take place. The other two are at Yeovilton in Somerset and Culdrose in Cornwall.
He said: “It’s not every day you have the chance to see the history of Royal Navy aviation before your eyes. It’s going to be quite a spectacle. We hope we’ll also have the opportunity to demonstrate the diverse roles carried out by the Fleet Air Arm including Search and Rescue, anti-submarine warfare and maritime patrol. With the Royal Navy’s participation, the Air Tattoo has become a valuable tri-Service event for the British Armed Forces.”
Should be spectacular :buttrock:
Didn’t they organise a similar massive fly past at fairford last year before it was...er..Canceled !!!!!
anyway should be some Spectacle
I'd wouln't like to be ATC on duty when this flypast kicks in :yikes:

Nice video here of what to expect from the Italian C-27J Spartan. There are some rumours that it will be banned from doing the rolls, which will be a shame if true. Still a nice little aircraft.

Some nice flying there.
On a slightly down note, it looks like your namesake may not be at RIAT... XH558 is currently grounded at Waddington as it has no Permit To Fly.

I heard that it did'nt fly at Waddo but did'nt know the reason, how the hell do they over look something like that? It would be typical if I did'nt get to see it.
-
I've been to 4 or 5 shows (I think) so far hoping to see the Vulcan, and I finally managed to see it at Volkel.
I had planned on going to Waddington but couldn't travel as I had no passport, I'm also going to Yeovilton & RIAT, will Volkel make it 1 show out of 7 or 8? I hope not.
You should check out UKAR (http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=28&start=3200) for the latest info (and venom!!!)
-
I know Frank, I haven't seen a flying Vulcan in about 30 years and was hoping to see it at Biggin last year, but it wasn't ready. Then we were looking forward to RIAT and that was washed out and now this year seems to be in doubt. There is a pretty good line up, but XH558 would have been a bonus for sure.
-
HI vulcan
How the hell did they let something as important as a valuable doc expire????? A lot of generous folk including sponsors gave a shed load of cash to have her airworthy, only to let a CAA or PTF or whatever doc expire! Surley it was flagged by someone in admin ???
What are the chances of all the paperwork required to ready in time for RIAT?
Maybe the inclusion of the VC-10in your latest update could be a replacement just a theory!
Great video of the Spartan too Vulcan :buttrock:
Ive had a change of travel plans too

Hi Joey, There is talk on UKAR that the Vulcan has a "fair" chance of appearing at Yeovilton this weekend, so that would mean RIAT as well, but there is no Garruntee about these things. I can'tunderstand the c**k up either, heads should roll for this. They won't be getting any more of my cash until they can prove they are worthy of running such a project. We will be flying out from Dublin next friday on the 17.20 flight to Bristol, so we may see you if you are on that flight. It will be a good show regardless and I am still looking forward to it

Irish CASA cancelled, but replaced with an AW139. At least we are sending something. Probably something to do with the emergency incident on the 2nd.
-
The CASA that declared the emergency is ok, there was a false warning. Another CASA was due back from Spain but it is still there, that's what the hold up is.
The Vulcan is back in the air too so we'll see that at RIAT.
