I agree absolutely !

Perhaps there are plans to set up a Fouga gate guardian outside the museum when it is finally opened up to the general public ?

Great photo, Fouga. I wouldn't mind my boss saying "Just boroscope the right hand engine and you can go home!"

Hi all.
There was once a proposal to put either Vampire 198 or a Fouga (3-KE reassembled) on a vertical pylon on the main square in the Don, but it fell by the wayside due to arguments about it's exact site and the refusal of the real soldiers to allow anything to desecrate their hallowed square.
Another proposal that was quashed, once upon a time, was one to fit smoke tanks and associated plumbing to one of the Fougas. The plan was to have the Fouga use it's tip tanks for carrying the spray fluid (diesel with vegetable dye) and have a pump feeding ejection lines at each exhaust and the appropriate switches on the panel. It was bandied about for a while but came to naught. The Fouga unit refused to allow anything to be modded on the aircraft and ,allegedly, the AE section nailed it on the head, declining to take responsibility.

Correct me if im wrong but isnt Bal the AC's hub not the Army's?

Also were the smoke tanks etc going to be for a display Fouga for airshows and fly pasts?

Hi there
With regard to the once-proposed Fouga gate guard, the Camp Commander at the time was not opposed to putting an aircraft up on a plinth, but he was opposed to having the square disturbed by the work involved and they couldn't come to an agreement about where the aircraft would be positioned. There were also other little sub-arguments going on "up camp" and the whole idea faded.
Regarding the idea to fit smoke tanks, again, petty arguments shot the idea down and they ended up having the pilots flying around dumping fuel from the tip tanks! This was a crazy practise and the whole idea was shelved.

Just like we use on our Fouga's :-) they added a valve underneath the fuselage. for transit flights, the solo display uses the normal fuelsystem. For display they reroute the tiptank fuelsystem by simply turning a valve. They fill the tiptanks with diesel. no pump though. their is a "spray thing" on the exhaust. diesel is expelled thrue that by air pressure. System is activated by a switch in the cockpit. Works like a charm. On the end of the display the pilot dumps the remaining Diesel in the tips creating 4 smoke trails '<img'> I hope I explained it correctly in english '<img'>
