Air Corps Apprentice Contact Page / 40th Appt Class
« on: October 03, 2007, 12:25:21 am »
Best wishes to all members of the 40th! I know I'm a bit late with the anniversary-timing never was my best attribute, that could be why I've got 3 kids!

It would have been 31 years last month! Who's still left? Josh, Paddy Mc, where did the rest of us go? I know Kenny, Gibo and Benton and possibly Jad are in Oz, what happened to Woolie? and Billy Mc? and Sick Mick? all from Ballyfermot!

Irish Air Corps / Prints and Calendars
« on: January 11, 2006, 06:05:51 pm »
Hi Frank, many thanks for the calendar and prints, they arrived today. Excellent service as I only put in the order at the weekend! It was good looking through the photos on the calendar. It really must be 'Dead mans shoes' in Photo Section (we used to call it Porno Section!) I noticed that Tony Flanagan is still a Corporal! I did my NCO course with him in 1980! Most of the lads still in the 'Don from that course are now Flt.Sgts or RSMs. He's a top bloke though, so's Willy Barr but I'm still waiting for a selection of photos from my time in the 'Don he said he'd get for me! (in case he's reading this!)

Hi Frank, are you planning to visit RIAT this year? I haven't heard anything from this end about a youth day on the Friday like last year, but it's early days yet!

Irish Air Corps / RDF and what to do with them (2)

I couldn't reply to the previous thread, 'cos Frank closed it! I just wanted to say that we cooked the Goose a few years back in relation to what we should do with the reservists.
Back in the late '70s or early '80s there was an FCA camp in Baldonnel during the summer and they were billeted in the old Skid Row block, so they had to walk between Tech Wing and Flying Wing blocks to the Dining Hall, which is now Porno Section, well the poor 'baggers had to run the gauntlet if they weren't 'sinked' by the Tech Wing lads they were 'sinked' by the Flying Wing lads, with a score kept! No wonder they didn't want to go back there! Pity, they could have done all the duties for the summer, allowing the techies to go on leave. It was good sport at the time though!
Incidentally I was an ex FCA private (B Coy. 7th Batt.)  and I didn't experience any hostility from Dan Fay or the Nipple when I was doing my basic training, quite the reverse, they semed happy that they didn't have to teach me how to march, etc.
