Czech L-159s
« on: March 28, 2004, 11:05:25 pm »
I read somewere that the Czech Air Force had ordered 70+ L-159s but now they only need a third of this number to meet requirements. They hope to sell off the remaining aircraft which are complete or in production. It seems to be a shame that the Irish government turned their back on this aircraft as they may have got a bargain.Any comments on this topic? :(

The L159's were good on paper, unfortunatly they do not get to fly on paper, the PC-9 seems to be a better job for the moment.
Hopfully , if fast jets are contemplated in the future, we can but hope '<img'> , then something like the Mako, or the F/A/T-50 might make better sense.
Ireland, no jets, no future!

We should have gotten something like the Alpha Jet immediately after the Fouga's went.

the L-159's would hav been a superior choice to the pc-9's they have a highly capable radar which is undergoing development and an improved version is capable of supporting the amramm or the russian adder!and who was it that said the pc-9 was a better choice? ':p'

the way things are looking now about 30 will be bought by the slovakian air force so there will be aboutanother 30 in storage as the czechs have further reduced the required numbers to 18L-159's as a result of ordering the gripen so mayb in the future (whisper it)we can stil get some.ssh! '[:sus:'

And these aircraft would do what exactly, restore the IAC to the "glory of the 1990s" whats the point of spending limited defence funds on an airshow asset when the IAC cannot currently fulfill any military functions (and that includes LOH work since aircraft cannot be maintained in the field.)
