Hi, im doing my leaving cert and for histroy we can choose a special topic and i would like to do an essay on the IAC.

It couldonly be to be up as far as 1960 though, maybe something about the IAC during world war 2.
Anyone have any ideas or books i could get info on would be great.

Thanks
Alan

Alan,
I think you might be able to go up to 1966 with that,if you're doing course II anyway, its section E on the paper isn't it?
"Wing Over Ireland",The story of the Irish Air Corps by Donal MacCarron is a very good book, very comprehensive,I couldn't tell you exactly where you could get a copy though, try easons and some shops like that i suppose.
Good luck with the leaving btw,its a bitch alright, I'm doing it too!

Don't forget to keep us posted on that essay you're going to write,if you manage to find some decent sources that is!
I was going to write something on the aircorps as well but I do history through Irish and I figured the technical terms just wouldn't translate well!

You could also read "Step Together - Ireland's Emergency Army" (I think thats the title, haven't got it to hand) by Donal MacCarron. It was published a few years ago and should be easier to obtain than Wings Over Ireland. (Although I do have both)

It contains a lot of info about the Air Corps during WW2.

Good luck with the LC.

If you're in Dublin "Wings over Ireland" should be available from the Ilac centre and Central libraries.

Good luck with your leaving cert!!!!!
I know your thinking of writing an essay on the History of the Irish Aircorps, but if you cant find much info, try writing a paper on the role of the Irish Army in the United nations.

Well I hope everything goes well for you!!!!
Good luck with your future endeavors from this side of the pond!!! '<img'>
