Irish Air Corps / Re: What next aircraft?

..if you want to debate the Defence Forces as a whole go and join IMO or the like and debate it all you want with them

Debate with IMO, dont think so. They dont like dissent. Had a look at the thread on the AW139, paranoid . Disagree and try to debate, they come at one from all directions.
Gnat

(I sting)

Totally agree with you.Paranoid and pedantic.

Hey Pink Panther,
You are dead right, IMO deleted their paranoid postings, they are unbelievable. See their thread AB139, no critisism there, no dissent allowed.

Irish Air Corps / Re: New Air Base?
« on: December 22, 2008, 02:06:23 am »
Irish Marine,

I  think a base along the North West, Western or South Western seaboard would be appropriate in this era but we would need to expand  our fleet to meet our needs.  In light of our present difficult economic reality we cannot expect to see this happen straight away.  However there is a need to develop a modern air defence
strategy now and have it ready to roll out when the good economic times return. :ireland:

FiannaFail

???so why was this not done during our last economic boom then, - hang on - fianna fail were in charge, thats why :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Irish Air Corps / What next aircraft?
« on: July 19, 2007, 08:50:50 pm »
I love when anybody mentions fast jets the hysteria that comes from both camps.
The next big investment for the Air Corps is meant to be the Cessana replacement, hopefully with something more practice and suitable for more parachute work.
Then in IMHO the strategic transport, followed by some bigger choppers and then when conditions are suitable, I suspect there may be an aspiration towards fast jets as interceptors, but this would depend on a lot of factors.
I base this on the fact that there is an air-to-air course being planned for the PC-9's
But any body who thinks in terms of obsolete  aircraft like the harrier is a bit sad, even more sad then people who rant on about nonsense like space shuttles.
If it happens, and I stress IF then the most likely choice is the F/A/T-50 as it is the only new aircraft that has reached it's expectations.......
By the way....two words....more Casa's......

I have forgotten the details, to be honest, but I know that a few of the A111's have definitely been stopped, and all the fleet is due to be out of use by the end of this year...
Having said that, I saw one heading south in Kilkenny on Monday afternoon, it was already past The 3rd Batn' s Barracks, so I assume it's destination was somewhere further south.

Irish Air Corps / Air Corps To Use Birr?

Need another base?
What was wrong with gormo'? which has closed ,presumably to be gifted to some developer.....
And why would we need more PC-9M,s?
I see no real advantage in moving the Casa's from Bal' even if there was an increase in use....
