Irish Air Corps / Airlifter?
« on: January 19, 2006, 07:00:53 pm »
I'd agree that second hand C130's are not the way to go..Sri Lanka bought 2 or 3 ex RAF C130K's a couple of years ago,and all are wfu...the most logical would be to buy a couple of C295, all the advantages you get with a new a/c.
A cheap option might be to buy a couple of ex italian G222,that have been replaced by C27J's...a downside might be their RR tyne engines   '<img'>

Irish Air Corps / CHC SAR Helis
« on: December 08, 2005, 09:44:28 pm »
I see in Flight mag that CHC have won a contract in the UK to provide the coastguard with 4 S92 and 2 AB139 from 2007 till 2012.They will replace S61's.Whats the chances of them replacing their S61's here with similar equipment. 'stir_the_pot'

Irish Air Corps / AB139 to become A139
« on: November 22, 2005, 01:37:24 pm »
Re support without bells help, agusta seem to manage OK on that front with the A109 for example,so should not be an issue,as support for our helis would have been from agusta in Italy anway.Just my take on it. '<img'>

Irish Air Corps / Transport Aircraft
« on: November 20, 2005, 03:15:14 pm »
A capability to deploy the proposed  disaster reaction corps would be needed to make it work.Such a corps would need to be able to deploy at short notice without looking to hire a commerical carrier.Apart from this, such a transport capability would earn its keep dealing with irish forces oversees on peacekeeping duties. As for the comments by politicians, lets face it in a lot of cases their knowledge is a bit dubious.
So roll on L100/C130 or C295/C27  'thumbsup'
