Avro Cadet C 7 arrived from NZ on 20 August and removed from the container the next day. Re assembly commenced immediately and the team had it flying in time for the family day. It had last flown with the Air Corps in August 1945 and issued to Albert Clarke, Cloughjordan in March 1947.

The take off run seemed to my untrained eye to be very short. If I can recall, about the same as a Tiger Moth and very sedate.

George Flood's smile was only equal to mine and Jim Watkins, with a tinge of sadness that the other member of the quartet Madeleine O'Rourke RIP sadly had passed away. She would have been delighted to see it.

It's great to see this rare machine back in Ireland. Let's hope the aircraft is not kept under wraps and that the public who, through their taxes, have paid for its return, get a chance to see it flying from time to time.

Hope other historic aircraft are to follow, and lets just hope the C7 and the 195 will now be regulars in Irish skies.

Why don't some people form a charity to raise funds to keep these planes flying. In the UK a huge amount of money has been raised to get an RAF Vulcan back flying and it should take to the skies again sometime in the future, funded and supported by donations and volunteers. The same could be done in Ireland. Just a suggestion.

It sounds like a great idea......but..... it has been tried. We do not seem to be very interested in our aviation heritage. I know that the "quartet" I mentioned earlier in this thread and Joe Mac Dermott, Short finals and others will testify to  the frustrations of trying to motivate people. This over many years. Meetings arrange with officials who do not even bother to turn up etc. Depressing?  yes!
