Hi lads just a update from my early post and thanks for that link shamrock....

The crash happened at Cornamona in Connemara on 12 October 2009.
The two who died were Captain Derek Furniss, 32, from Rathfarnham in Dublin, and Cadet David Jevens, 22, from Glynn, Co Wexford.
The report by the Air Accident Investigation Unit at the Department of Transport said contributory factors included very changeable weather conditions, high speed when visibility was reduced, and the continued flight towards high terrain in deteriorating weather.
In a statement, Defence Forces Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Sean McCann said: "I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the families of Capt Derek Furniss and Cadet David Jevens on the tragic loss of their loved ones. I fully appreciate that the passage of time will not have dulled their absolute sense of loss.
"I fully accept the findings of the AAIU report and have ensured that all recommendations in the report have been implemented or are being implemented in order to manage the risks associated with training and operations in the Defence Forces.
"While I must ensure that members of the Defence Forces are trained to the highest possible standards in order to serve the Irish people; I am also acutely aware that we must continue to apply the highest international standards of risk management to ensure the safety and well being of all our personnel."

I think I speak for all of us on the forum when I offer our condolences to the families of the deceased pilots.

In my visits to Baldonnel & the range at Gormanston I happened to, albeit briefly, meet both Derek and David on separate occasions and I have to say I thought they were nice guys.

May they Rest In Peace.
