Hi all
As some of you know I'm relatively new to aviation  photography
I'm hopefully looking to upgrade from my Fuji S4050 bridge to a Cannon  or Nikon  I have a limited budget and can only afford a used camera body at the moment
anyway I was  browsing a camera mag and came across a UK based company who specialises in used Cameras to sell or buy or part exchange

http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk

I was hoping that I could get some advice about taking that "next step from Bridge to SLR  in hindsight my S4050 isn't as crisp at taking Airshow/airport photos as I hoped

Any advice would be a blessing

Thanks folks!

UK Air Shows / RIAT 2013
« on: December 18, 2012, 04:02:43 am »
Taken from the "Air Tattoo" home page

Visitors planning to attend next summer's Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, who purchase their tickets before January 7, will enjoy a saving of up to £14 on the price of admission.

Special Super Earlybird tickets go on sale this week (November 19) for next summer's event, which takes place on July 20-21.

In a bid to keep tickets as affordable as possible for its many supporters, we have decided to cap the price of the Sunday admission ticket, adding just £1 on to the 2012 admission price. This means that a Super Earlybird Sunday ticket will be available until January 6, priced just £30.

This compares with the £35 cost of a Super Earlybird Saturday ticket.

Between January 7 and April 3, Earlybird tickets will be available priced £40 for the Saturday and £35 for the Sunday.

After April 3, the standard advance ticket will go on sale, priced £45 (Saturday) and £40 (Sunday). Each order after April 3 will be subject to a £4 admin fee.

The Air Tattoo's Head of Marketing Helen Webb said: "We've introduced the new pricing structure to reflect the growing number of people who are looking for extra-value in these challenging times.

"By introducing specially-priced Sunday tickets and enabling all accompanied under-16s to come in for free, visitors can enjoy one of the UK's greatest outdoor events next summer at an extremely competitive price."

The Royal International Air Tattoo 2013 will bring together air arms from around the world in a celebration of aviation excellence.

Helen added: "Last summer's Air Tattoo was a great success with new aerobatic display teams taking part, stealth aircraft and three new countries participating. We're planning to match all that excitement with an equally thrilling airshow in July." :buttrock:

Would Make a Great "Christmas Present"

Aviation Waffle / Red Arrow crashes during Bournemouth Air Festival
« on: August 20, 2011, 03:07:32 pm »

This just In from BBC News

Red Arrow crashes during Bournemouth Air Festival

Nine aircraft were taking part in the display but only eight landed safely afterwards A Red Arrow aeroplane has crashed in Dorset following a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival.

The fire service confirmed they were called to an air crash at 13:50 BST near Bournemouth International Airport.

A BBC producer at the scene said he saw only eight of the nine Red Arrows RAF display team's aircraft land on the runway at the annual event.

They had earlier taken part in a display over the seafront. No details are known about possible casualties.

BBC South Today producer Martin Webster said the plane was thought to have crashed in an open area at Throop village, near the Castlepoint shopping centre.

Shaun Spencer-Perkins, who witnessed the crash from Throop Mill, said: "I heard a rushing sound and I saw a plane about 15m above the ground racing across the fields.

"It impacted and bounced across the field, made it across the river.

"Members of the public jumped into the water to search for the cockpit.

"We waved down the helicopter, I took off my son's orange jacket and my wife's red jumper to get the attention of the helicopter."

Aviation News / Air Corps base to review security after break-in
« on: April 04, 2011, 02:14:43 pm »
A FULL review of security was under way at an Air Corps base last night after a runway was damaged in an embarrassing break-in.
Queen Elizabeth II is expected to fly into Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel, Co Dublin, on an RAF flight to begin her historic State visit to Ireland next month.
The damage was discovered early yesterday morning as a CASA maritime patrol aircraft was being readied for take-off to take part in the search for the two missing fishermen off the east coast.
One line of inquiry is likely to focus on whether the vandalism might have been the work of a group opposed to the visit of the queen next month. Air Corps personnel, who carry out routine runway inspections before each flight, discovered a 50ft area on one of the two runways covered in fist-sized "pockmarks".
The damage was caused to part of the runway furthest away from Air Corps buildings and hangars and likely occurred between Saturday night and first light yesterday.
Following an assessment of the runway yesterday, the damage was classified as superficial.
It will undergo a thorough sweep to remove any debris, and is expected to be fully operational by this morning.
The military police and gardai are continuing to investigate the cause of the damage, which may have been caused by a pickaxe or similar implement.

UK Air Shows / RIAT 2011
« on: March 11, 2011, 05:58:54 am »

Making a welcome return to the Air Tattoo this summer will be a P-3C Orion from the German Navy.

The aircraft, which made its UK airshow debut last year as part of the Deutsche Marine, performs land-based maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare roles.

Also taking part will be a German Navy Mk88A Super Sea Lynx, which operate from F122 and F123 class frigates, carrying out a variety of roles including anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue and troop and cargo transport. The aircraft were built at GKN Westland Helicopters factory in Yeovil, UK and entered service with the German Navy in 1999.

Both aircraft, which will be on static display as part of the Air Tattoo's operational theme STAR 11 (Strike, Attack and Reconnaissance), are based with the German Navy's Marinefliegergeschwader 3 'Graf Zeppelin', at Naval Air Station Nordholz, north of Bremen.
The German P-3Cs were bought from the Netherlands Navy Maritime Patrol in 2006 to succeed the obsolete Breguet Atlantiques.  In addition to the German Navy, the P-3 Orion is in use by numerous navies and air forces around the world including Japan, Greece, the US and Pakistan. Their primarily roles are maritime patrol, reconnaissance, anti-surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare operations.

Aircraft Operations Deputy Director Rob Windsor said he was delighted the German Navy would be present at RIAT on the 40th anniversary of the event.

"The German Navy has supported the airshow for many years and has helped our event gain its excellent reputation worldwide. We are extremely grateful."
