Aviation Waffle / Re: Channel 4 programme-Plane crash
« on: October 15, 2012, 02:33:08 pm »
Watched it, it was ok but was it really representative of a modern airliner crashing?
To my mind, it's a bit like crashing a Cortina and basing a Mondeos NCAP rating on the results.
It was interesting but I feel it was more about making a TV programme rather than learning anything significant about plane crashes.

Aviation Photography / Improving the upload page.
« on: September 07, 2011, 09:44:27 am »
Just a couple of ideas (nicked from elsewhere) for improving the photo upload page,

1: Show your previous months upload percentage as well as your overall percentage.
My overall % might be 60% or higher but my previous months % might have dipped below because
of rejected pics.

2: The ability to delete/remove pictures from queue after uploading,
Many's a time I've uploaded a picture only to see it in the queue and regret said upload.

3: It'd be nice to know how many pictures are ahead of yours in the screening process.

These are not criticisms of the site, simply a wish list.

Very OTT headline.
http://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2011/07/24/ibiza-plane-bursts-into-flames-above-holiday-island/

Looks like the engine ate something that didn't agree with it! Possibly ingested a bird or debris on takeoff?

Thanks for all the replies lads, I said at the top of the page that it was the Irish Times, I mixed the two papers up, it is indeed (as Ascot has pointed out) the Sunday Times. Not a particularly nice rag, seem to take a perverse pleasure in the woes of Ireland and Europe/Euro in general.

The pic in question. http://www.irishairpics.com/photo/1040908/M/

Firstly, I don't "sell" my pics anywhere. I reckon the reason mine was picked is because its the most recent? It's certainly not the pick of the bunch.

Thanks for the pointers though, I'll try and remember them when Rueters are bombarding me with offers;D

Cheers guys, might buy myself a couple of filters!

One of my photo's has been used on the front page of The Irish Times Business section. I was contacted for permission which I duly gave and was told I'd be credited for the picture and be paid, I'm delighted with the pic being shown (They've superimposed a person onto the pic but that doesn't matter to me) but I'm wondering how much I'll get paid for it as I didn't agree any price (I assume they have a set rate for that type of photo?)
I know it won't be much but has anybody had a photo used by a national paper and been paid for it?

Aviation News / Re: Ex EI A330 (EI-DUB), clips fence when landing

I suppose it could have been a lot worse, they could have clipped a piece of construction machinery or similar and your options are pretty limited if you're that low anyway
