There is something about CGI, particularly it's use in aviation sequences.  I don't think it has been quite perfected. When an aircraft turns in flight always looks awkward.   At this point in time you still can't beat real flight footage in films.  I know it's probably expensive and not practical these days, given you simply wouldn't have 100+ B 17's or whatever to muster into the air.  Favourite aviation flicks of all time(purely from an aerial action point of view);
Memphis Belle
Battle of Britain
Empire of the Sun(Mustang scenes are amazing.)

Irish Air Corps / PC 9 formation
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:19:45 pm »
Did anyone happen to see a formation of four PC 9's today at around 3pm?  I was out the back garden and they seemed to be in a holding pattern above for around 15 minutes.  Going on past experiences they normally do this prior to getting the call in for a flypast.  Anyone shed any light?

I remember getting Wings over Ireland for Christmas and enjoyed it immensely.  I know certain people faulted his books for there inaccuracies.   However they still did a lot to promote the Air Corps and Irish Aviation in general.  RIP

Scale Aircraft Modelling / Re: New Airfix 1/72 Air Corps Hurricane
« on: September 05, 2010, 08:22:52 pm »
If this model was released when I was a kid I would have been delighted.  In my younger years, I built many a kit and painted it in the Air Corps colours including roundals!!!  If your that serious of a modeller you will improvise to get the model truely accurate.  Do you think all the Airfix models of other Air Force around the world are accurate,  I doubt it.  For such a small air arm as ours I think it's nice to see one of our aircraft immortalised by Airfix(if even a bit inaccurate).
At least it will mean some enthuasiastic 10 year old won't have to paint markings on to a 1/72 scale model.

Dave Bruton gave an excellent display.  Would be nice to see a section of Air Corps helicopters as opposed to the usual singletons they send of late.  Does anybody know we have never seen a fast jet or major display team at this show?  Location maybe?

I'm hearing if all goes to plan there will be a couple of very big surprises indeed, expect this to happen :jaw-dropping:

Don't suppose you'd care to elaborate?
I saw most of the Air Corps returning from their practice displays about an hour a go.  It says on the Bray website there will be a Pc 9 in attendance.  They'll actually be bringing a four ship.

Looks way more impressive than the AW139's.  To think some of these could have been in Air Corps colours.

Brian Cowan recently invited The Queen to Ireland.  Some years ago the Naval Service took part in the 200th Anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Trafalgar.  I can't see the reason being political.

Twister Duo -just added to lineup.  Getting better lads.  Now fellow Airshow 100 refugees Hurricane and Vampire would be nice.

This fiasco reads like the Mach 1 farce of a couple of years back.  To think the last recession of the 80's could be considered the golden age of airshows in Ireland with successive Air Spectaulars being held at Baldonnel.  Maybe going forward lessons can be learnt from these show's-get a headline act from another airforce other than the RAF, Patrouille De France for example.  The Reds are amazing but have been seen so many times now on these shores. Hold the show at an airfield -maybe one of the numerous  regional airports throughout the country. A greater mixture of participants, from fast jets to classic warbirds.
Remember how Air Spectacular opened in 1987-several low flypasts by the Aer Lingus 747-fantastic.  This could have been a good opener for the illfated Airshow 100; with an Airbus A330 buzzing the fields of Kildare-oh forgot about the horse fraternity

Just checked the Bray website, Dave Bruton, Eddie Goggins and Red Bull Matadors to perform.  Although these are no doubt excellent display acts a little diversification is seriously needed at this show.  For the last couple of years the Bray airshow has had pretty much the same acts displaying.  All prop aircraft at that.  I have lent my support by visiting this show each year but unless something interesting appears on this years lineup I won't be attending again.
