FAO: IAS et al,

In another thread here, FiannaFail mentioned that there was an hour-long programme about the Naval Service on RTE back in 1996, and that it may be possible to get a video copy of this programme from RTE archives.
- likewise, a 1993 Air Corps heli video which I am looking for.

Well, I recieved a reply today from RTE re the NS programme, and they want €55 for a copy of the video !!!

Suffice to say, I won't be placing any orders     '[:sus:'

I have the other one also, the NS 50th anniversary documentary. Someone taped over the start though '[<img'>
TG4 had a series of documentaries about the AC and NS a few years back also, concentrated on the Finner based Dauphin. Prime time also had a show about the poor equipment in both the NS and AC. They had on eon the army also, but i missed that. many of these are available online...

You could try UTV for their pne some years ago with that dude from the "Cook Report", he went on eithne for a few days and flew with the Dauphin on anti-fishing, anti-drugs etc

I also have the TG4 and the Prime Time documentaries on the AC and NS.

'Nationwide' had a special documentary devoted to the Defence Forces - it was the best I have seen (taped it also!).

Interesting fouga - never heard of/saw that programme.

Can you recall how long ago the programme was shown ?
And how long it was (half-hour, hour) ?

Cheers,
Sliver.

It was 30minutes long, very interesting, he kept going "im here on board blah blah, about to swoop down on these vessels on the heli radar and check them out with these pilots etc."

very dramatic.

Sorry Fouga,
But it was an hour long documentary with penty of historical footage from the emergency as well as the corvettes (including the incident when a dept charge exploded) the arrival of the mine sweepers, the LE Deirdre and sister ships etc etc.  One of the better made RTÉ documentaries!

You dont have UTV do you FF, it never had anything about historics and he was like the Paul williams guy doing infiltration etc and at the end of the 30 min prog he would come up to whoever he was trying to inflitrate on the prog and say " Mr X, blah blah here from the cook report, can you explain why your ripping off people etc...."

Basically he was like the "Rogue Traders" show on tv recently except he went after drugs etc

I remember when he went after the spanish with the secret compartments in the trawlers...
Joined our navy lads as they proudly crawled around in the holds, and watched as the NS personell "restrained" '<img'>  crewmen who tried to resist the search..

The amount of times he got roughed up...
