Irish Aviation History / Ex Air Corps Spitfire for sale
« on: July 08, 2013, 11:19:06 pm »
Spitfire Tr.9 MJ627 G-BMSB Ex Irish Air Corps 158 is up for sale. The spitfire was owned by brothers Maurice and Peter Bayliss. Maurice passed away six weeks ago. They maintained the Spitfire in immaculate condition.
Wonder where it will end up now?

Irish Aviation History / Re: Sad news- Paddy Cummins RIP

Paddy was a meticulous researcher and a dedicated historian. He was well known to local historical groups in the south east and shared his vast knowledge in his lectures on the Air Corps and the foreign aircraft wartime crashes..
Difficult to believe as I was talking to him about future projects only ten days ago and as usual enthusiastic.
He will be sadly missed.Sincere condolences to Maura and family.
Rest in peace Paddy.

The B17 Flying Fortress is confirmed and I have had confirmation that the Grace Spitfire Tr9 ML407 ex Air Corps 162 is also coming and will be flown by Richard Grace.
Looking forward to seeing 162 again.

Air Corps News / The Air Corps Museum
« on: April 24, 2013, 06:56:35 pm »
At the Air Corps Museum at Baldonnel, curator Michael Whelan receives the excellent support of a group of former Air Corps personnel, members of the Roger Casement Branch of the O.N.E. This support is in the form of maintenance and cleaning of the aircraft and equipment exhibited a vital exercise for the proper presentation of the museum contents. The operation is undertaken efficiently and in a seemingly overt casual and jovial atmosphere. This all begins following the arrival of the team but not before the tea and coffee ( in this case the tea  break is before the work starts!). It is then that the anecdotes and stories flow of incidents in the Air Corps or  some hair raising stories during civilian operations in far off countries, legends or what? A finger snaps, a call to work and every one departs to the respective chore of the day.
A great team indeed.

A195 is still in Baldonnel with the museum and although it has not flown for five and a half years it could still be possible to have it flown again after a check out, but not likely to happen.

I recall when British Aerospace sent their Mosquito Trainer to the Airshow at Baldonnel in August 1986.It looked fantastic and those Merlins made a great sound. The pilot Tony Craig very kindly gave me the grand tour, a day to remember, nice chap Tony Craig.Tried scanning some slides but not great.
