Irish Aviation History / New book: Military Aviation In Northern Ireland
« on: September 02, 2013, 07:52:40 pm »
I picked up this recently published book in Eason's (Dublin).

http://www.colourpointbooks.co.uk/more_details.php?id=1620

At a very reasonable price of €12.85, it is a high-quality illustrated history of military aviation in NI, written by two authors who know their subject well.  The early years, WW2 and busy post-war period are covered and while some of the photos may be familiar, there are many that I have not seen before.  I look forward to seeing the companion volume on civil aviation which is also due.

Irish Aviation History / Irish Defence Forces Archives on Flickr
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:47:21 pm »
The DF Archives have begun to post to Flickr images on which they are looking for additional infomation from the public in relation to people, place and equipment depicted.  There is little enough aviation content as yet but aircraft do feature in some of the photos, particularly those covering the Irish UN Congo mission.  It is probably worth keeping an eye on.

People here may be interested to see these excellent photos, taken at Baldonnel in the late 1950s.  There are some good close-up shots and I suspect that some of these have not been published elsewhere before.

« on: August 28, 2011, 11:41:36 am »
People might be interested to see these recent images of former Air Corps Vampire 185.  It is one of a large number of military jets preserved at a museum in Savigny-les-Beaune in the Burgundy region of France.

Browsing on Flickr I found these interesting photos which have recently been added:

Anyone able to suggest a type for the second aircraft - it doesn't look like a Seafire to me.

Irish Air Corps / Air Corps AW139 at Farnborough Show
« on: July 14, 2008, 08:17:36 pm »
Reports elsewhere on the 'Net indicate that AW139 serial 277 is on static display at Farnborough this week.  Interestingly, 275 was reported leaving RAF Northolt this afternoon for Cork - whether connected with the other AW139 at Farnborough I don't know. :ireland:

At the risk of waking the slumbering membership of this forum, I thought people might be interested in this well-written article, which includes some very good photos.  The one of the stored Alouettes is rather sad, though. :'(
