Hi Pilatus,

Seems very unlikely that there will be a Salthill '09. Last time the show was held the guys had to put in a lot of work to get the sponsors. With the "Credit Crunch" raising funds to pay for the "free" event would be all the more difficult. Any rumours yet for Bray ?

What exactly is a "tree hugger" I like trees and I give people I like (love ) a hug, so what does that say of me.
The reason there is no "Salthill " is because of the greed of the traders of the city of the tribes who were prepared to take advantage of the vast crowds and put nothing in to support the event. I do not believe it was because of potential protest. All praise to the hard working team who organised the event in previous years ,it must be frustrating for them.
Gnat,

Would any of you guys be able to guesstimate how much it would take to pay for the show?If every person that attended the show donated a few euro, it would pay for itself and sure alot would give more than a few euro, i know i would!Would the merlin door issue and the more than likely rise in insurance be a factor also!?

Pilatus et al,

I don't know exactly how much it costs to run the show but I think the papers in Galway quoted something along the lines of EUR60,000 to EUR100,000.

I would just like to point out as well that the Merlin door incident had nothing to do with the cancellation of the show, as far as I know the Merlin was operating under it's own insurance, not air show insurance, so I don't think there was an increase in the air show's public liability insurance premium.

Regards,

Frank.

It's a pitty such a great event and looks like it's gone
If you look at it moneywise, no matter what the media tells you about all this recession, crunch, crisis, or whatever the name is in, 100 grand isn't too much. But if there's no will...

It’s not looking good for any free Irish airshows this year.
Hats off to the organisers of any free Airshow trying to get sponsors ,especially during these current economic times

and unless Portrush or any other Airshow north of the border  happens it looks like trips abroad to get your Airshow fix for the foreseeable future

I always hoped that Baldonnel would host another Unforgettable Air Spectacular 2 day Event
It would have be a ticket affair €30 would be reasonable

Does anyone know the reason why it was never repeated?
