Heard AL have an A320 in white 70's era colour scheme for the 75th anniversary? Anyone seen it?

Seems to be up to individual countries. I remember the standard Irish regulations being set out in S.I 52 of 1992 (I think???). it lists the requirements for national flag and reg position. If im not mistaken, recall it listed 'EJ-***' as the continuation once the 'EI' prefix are all allocated.

Scale Aircraft Modelling / Re: New Airfix 1/72 Air Corps Hurricane

Ok, so the Airfix research might have been a bit lazy but here's my two cents; (que music, phil coulter or similar)

When I was a youngfella and my interest in the Air Corps was growing, I built hundreds of models. I didn't care that the camo scheme didn't match the box exactly at all. I had no idea about decal sheets or specialised shops and the glorious day I discovered a Heller Fouga in Easons I was made up! It got a silver and dayglo orange paint job with home made roundels and numbers. I had always wished to see an 'off the shelf' Air Corps aircraft in the shops.

My point is, the modellers on the forum here are good enough at what they do to spot the imperfections and correct them, but I bet there is a ten year old out there who cant wait to get his hands on the kit for the simple thrill of putting the Irish decals on it.

There is a story that on one occasion the entire salvo fired at the same time which resulted in a severe drop in airspeed, not quite a stall though. again not sure how true it is but the story goes that arming the aircraft stopped after that.

Great to see colour footage of the IAC Vampires, never seen it before! Nice that the lead aircraft is 191, breathes life into the museum piece for a relative youngfella like me!

If these guys are still flying they'd be a welcome sight/sound at punchestown too! Not least for the chance to meet the pilot on screen at 1:50, what a legend!

I don't think he should be banned either. He is as entitled to his opinion as the rest of us. Besides, every forum needs a 'Simon Cowell' figure to stir up some debate. Who knows, for every 5 jedwards we might get 1 girls aloud! :fryingpan:

Air Corps Careers / Re: Need Advice
« on: March 03, 2010, 06:33:30 pm »
Dave,
www.military.ie should spell it out in the careers section. From what I understand the foreign language was included in the 'minimum education requirements' to mirror most CAO courses which had a similar requirement. In that respect it could be aimed specifically at school-leavers as opposed to college graduates. I recall the education part of the career booklet contained a phrase along the lines of 'leaving cert inc three higher Cs and three passes to inc a modern european language OR a standard of education the minister deems suitable.'

A college qualification is a higher qualification than the leaving cert so whether or not you have a language at L.C. level might not matter.

That's my two cents anyway but try the above website, at the very least it might have a direct contact to the employment officer.

Irish Air Shows / Re: Volvo Ocean Race Galway - Air Display

Whiskey Section, i agree that there should be Air Corps involvement. However, there seems to be a history of missing golden PR opportunities. How impressive is it to see all the flypasts at american football games on youtube? well, we recently had the superbowl of Irish rugby in croke park and a chance missed! How impressive was the AW139 in Thomond park? I bet plenty of kids went home thinking how cool a job that must be.

Sorry, end rant.  :banghead:

Irish Air Corps / Re: Taoiseach calls for Jet upgrade
« on: April 23, 2008, 11:25:26 am »
I remember when the Learjet arrived the Air Corps invited the media to have a look thereby removing any 'mystery factor' that the govt were hiding their extravagance. unfortunately the red tops made the aircraft out to be an embarassment as it was too small to be taken seriously! :duh: whatever happens its a no-win situation but if the option of transporting our peacekeepers can be emphasised, perhaps minimum begrudgery can be achieved? :banghead:
