AIR TATTOO OFFERS EARLYBIRDS BIG SAVINGS
Visitors to this summer’s Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford can make a saving of up to £9 per ticket if they buy before the end of February.
Special Earlybird tickets, priced £32.50, are available, representing a saving of £5 off the price of the day-specific advance ticket. Until February 28, the booking fee of £4 has also been waived. All tickets for the Air Tattoo must be bought in advance.
This summer’s Air Tattoo takes place on July 17&18 and will feature special tributes marking the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It will also focus on the vital role ‘training’ plays in equipping the Armed Forces for operations in the 21st century. Among the aircraft already confirmed for the airshow in July are two Romanian Air Force (Russian-designed) MiG-21s, rarely seen in the UK.
Air Tattoo Deputy Director of Marketing Helen Webb said the specially-priced Earlybird ticket, combined with free entry for all under-16s, meant the airshow offered unrivalled value-for-money for families looking for an exciting day out this summer.
She said: “As was the case last year, no Air Tattoo tickets will be available on the gate in 2010 so people will have to buy in advance if they want to enjoy the world’s greatest military airshow. Buying tickets before February 28, 2010 will not only ensure they’ll be with us next year but they’ll also save money.”
In addition to the day-specific Earlybird tickets, there is also an opportunity to buy tickets valid for either Saturday (July 17) or Sunday (July 18), priced £42.50 as well as tickets for all the various grandstands and enclosures. To see the full range of ticket options, visit airtattoo.com or call the Air Tattoo box office on 0800 107 1940.
The Air Tattoo is staged annually in support of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. Since 2005, it has helped raise about £1.3 million for its parent charity.

Hi Steve
I Know its not on the first Official list, but neither are the likes of the Vulcan, B1, B52, Flying Tornado or Flying Harrier.
You can check these two links out.

Both of these threads were posted by the one that broke the news of the Raptors and the fact that there would be a first official list on monday when everyone was expecting it in late April, so pretty reliable.

Look forward to RIAT 2010 and with farnborough this year we may see some suprise visits

Has the Rafael been officialy confirmed?

Last year the Pilot put on a cracking display i missed the "Dump n Burn" Manovoure though!
The dump and burn was done by the Czech Gripen, not the Rafale
-
My apologies for the mixup Frank !
I had my son with me so i was ducking in and out of Shops n stalls and taking photos of all the static
So i didn't get to see the Saab Gripen display :-(
-
No need to apologise. (and on the subject of apologies, if the above correction seems a bit harsh, I apologise, I was in a bit of a rush and it sounded ok at the time!)
I'm looking forward to seeing the Rafale again, I really like that plane.
-
Hi Frank
Not only did i get the wrong plane i even spelt Rafale wrong I'ts an age thing first the sight, then the brain :duh:
I have a question to put out there ???
If there is to be a fly-past organised to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and any nation that took part in said conflict are to be honored, will the :ireland: take part in the Fly-past and what aircraft would they send ( I’m assuming the AW139 will be attending)
-
The Raf display hawk for 2010 looks great

not on the Official RIAT Page
Swedish AS39C Gripen F7 Wing making a return ??? :jaw-dropping:

Starting to looking really good. That list is on top of 10 or 11 fast jet displays, 4 display teams and also the distinct possibility of even more in the form of B1 and Vulcan, although a B2 now looks remote. Gonna be a good one.

Is the Airbus A400M an airshow exclusive?
Don't think so, I think it's also showing up at ILA Berlin in a few weeks. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing that bird fly.
-
Im thinking about going to the show this year, but a few questions.Number 1, tickets!what sort of ticket should i buy?i was on RIAT's website and there are more tickets and passes than i can think off, quite confusing. Is there a ticket that allows you to walk along the static display and still get a good spot on the flightline?
Number 2, Is the display the exact same on both days and is it worth going both days?
Number 3, Accomadation, any recommendations from those of you that were there before?
Cheers.

Id recommend going for sure but to answer your questions.
Number 1. Buying any of the entrance tickets will allow you to go around the static park and find yourself a spot to see the flying. In addition you can buy one of the the other tickets, public grandstand, Jubilee garden, etc., but you have to buy an entrance ticket as well. We get tickets for both days with public grandstand on one day.
Number2. The flying display is, in the main, the same both days, although there maybe the odd act that maybe only appearing on one day (that is usually advertised) and if it is a very full flying display, then they might have certain acts on one day. The main headliners, though, are usually on both days. I would certainly recommend going both days as it is such a big show it is difficult to do everything in one day. Remember that the flying displays start at around 09.30 - 10.00 and go straight through till 17.00 -17.30. We do both days which allows us to take in the flying on one day and the static and all the other attractions and anything that is flying that wasn't on the first day, on the second.
Number3. This might be the most difficult question for you. You will be hard pushed to find accomadation in Swindon at this late stage un less you want to pay through the nose for it. Not saying there is nothing there, but you may have to look a little farther a field, not too bad if you are driving. If, like us, you're not driving then try in places that are on the train line ie. Bath, Chippenham, or even Bristol. Bristol is about 40 mins on the train. There is a shuttle bus from Swindon Bus station to the air field.
Hope this is of some help.
-
I concur with Vulcan spot on
To further add to the Accommodation point .Vulcan’s right about availability all b&bs will take full advantage of the week that’s in it and increase their prices you’ll be hard pressed to find anything near Swindon at this late stage it also depend on where your travelling from …
Let’s assume your travelling by air, so Bristol is where it all begins Hotels are reasonable around Bristol even around the time Riat
Last year I stayed at Express By Holiday Iinn Bristol parkway beside Bristol parkway train station
prices start around £70 for a double room per night it’s around 35/40 mins by rail to Swindon train station
Then you get the special Air Tattoo shuttle bus from Swindon bus station to the Airshow
I highly recommend the shuttle bus as the local authorities have a system so that the shuttle bus is given a designated route to avoid all traffic travelling to the show
The trade off at this point is the commuting to and from the show back to your hotel each day if you’re going to be attending both days ???
As for what to do at the show........... Here's My tip
Day 1 Flying displays I Recommend the Grandstand seating for an uninterupted veiw of the flying displays
Day 2 Static Displays and general walking around visiting the other attractions
you will still see the flying while walking wear comfortable shoes :airforce_laugh:
The above advice will also depend on the weather conditions on the day in question
Good luck on your quest
-
Thanks for the advice and replies.I think im going to go ahead and book flights and accommadation tomorrow.I found a lodge in gloucester about 16 miles from Fairford for £120 for 3 nights , so i'll just taxi it or bus it from there.Return flights, a roof over my head and tickets to the airshow should be had for around £230-50.Not too bad!anyone else staying in gloucester?
-
What part of Gloucester are you staying in?
as far as I'm aware there are no buses running from Gloucester to the show ,so the best option would be the train to Swindon and the shuttle from there,
http://www.militaryairshows.co.uk/ven/ven3map.htm
However I will be staying with my sister near Gloucester town and as I'm bringing the car if you are staying nearby I'm sure we could arrange a lift, we are heading over on the Wednesday to catch the arrivals and practice on Thursday and Friday .
-
Baldonnel-boy, im staying in the city lodge guest house on 72 weston road. The website says it's right in the middle of the city.A lift would be great and if we could arrange it, thanks.Im really looking forward to it now.Im just going to head over on the friday and hopefully the weather will hold up too!Im hoping there will be a MiG-29 there!that would make the weekend for me!

RAF’S FUTURE AIRLIFTER IN UK DISPLAY DEBUT
The Royal Air Force’s much-debated next-generation airlifter will be unveiled to the British public in July when it makes its UK flying display debut at the Royal International Air Tattoo.
Airbus’s chief military test pilot Ed Strongman will be at the controls of the A400M when it displays at the airshow, at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on July 17&18.
The aircraft, which is designed to fly troops and equipment, was due to go into service this year, but is now unlikely to be operational before 2012. Its appearance will provide the first opportunity for the public to see the culmination of a two-decade long project to develop a future military transport aircraft.
Due, ultimately, to replace the RAF’s C-130 Hercules fleet, the A400M can travel further and faster than most current in-service airlifters and can carry larger payloads. It is also far more flexible.
Chris Pocock, Defence Editor for Aviation International News said: “When they first see it, most people will be surprised at the size of Europe's new airlifter. Thanks to its huge turboprops mounted on a swept wing, the A400M combines a high cruising speed at altitude with excellent slow-speed tactical performance, and the capacity to carry a variety of large military and humanitarian loads.”
This summer’s Royal International Air Tattoo will feature around 300 aircraft from across the globe, including the US Air Force F-22 Raptor, Romanian Air Force MiG-21s and Polish Air Force Su-22s. The event has also been chosen by the Royal Air Force to stage its flagship commemoration of the Battle of Britain, on its 70th anniversary.
In addition to the flying display, visitors can enjoy a large static aircraft park plus a wide range of ground-based activities including a concert stage, Battle of Britain ‘Village’, plus the interactive Tri@RIAT area for youngsters. For details and to buy tickets, visit airtattoo.com (http://www.airtattoo.com)

A good selection heavies on the flying display this year & Judging by the amount of Spits attending this year, The BBMF & RAF must have a spectacular display Planned Roll on july!!!
-
RNZAF -757 Cancelled, due to operational commitments apparently :airforce_cry:. Such a shame after last years super display. First cancellation, hopefully there won't be too many.
-
That's a shame :airforce_cry:
My older brother is travelling along with me this year and i was banging on about the 757 display
Anyway there is still the A400M to look forward too :buttrock:
On a slightly different but relevant to this post note :
Aer Lingus Regional have announced that they are to open up new routes from Shannon among the new routes is Bristol starting July
As your probably aware Ryanair suspended routes to bristol last year so any member who in the past used Shannon as point of departure and are still planning to travel to RIAT this year and have not yet booked flights should look up Aer Lingus Regional for Scheduled Departure times
This may save a lot of time and expense
-
Yeh, Joey, I read about that last week, unfortunately we already have our flights booked to Heathrow. It is still only about 2 hours from airport to B&B so not that much difference. Aer Lingus Regional will be something we can bear in mind for next year.
-
Terrible to see two of the major stars of this year being lost. Both the Romanian Mig 21's and the Sri Lankan AN32B have cancelled :( :banghead:
-
Strange to see the cancelled RNZAF 757 still on the site despite the update, But the migs have been removed from the site i thought the updates would have included cancelations aswell ? maybe a change of heart perhaps by the RNZAF ?
-
Yeh, Joey, rge RNZAF 757 is still there and I heard rumours that it it is still coming, but cancelled at Waddo. Not sure how much truth there is in that, we will have to wait and keep our fingers crossed. Still no word on the Vulcan, they were suppose to be flying this year?
-
I'ts a birthday celabration for Vulcan this year too!! and wasn't VULCAN TO THE SKY organisation in reciept of a very large donation aswell to keep her flying? And let hope the RNZAF 757 makes it to Riat
-
USAF F-15 Strike Eagle (F)
Tornado F3 (F)
The above additions maybe part of the planned BoB flypast
more positive news is the
The RNZAF 757-200 may still be displaying
I guess there's no time to find a replacment for the Migs at this late stage...
-

Still no update on VULCAN apearence at RIAT this year not a good sign :-(
-
Are the IAC :ireland: attending RIAT this year?
Also i was wondering if the cancelled C-27j Spartan was the Italian display aircraft ?
They Put on a cracking display last year  :buttrock:
-
Apparently, the Vulcan has not flown this year at all yet due to yet more technical difficulties. She is back on her undercarriage again and engine runs are due in the next couple of days. She is out for Waddo as that is this weekend, but there is still hope for RIAT. I heard something through the grapevine that there will be no Irish aircraft there this year, again not sure of how true that is, but we can only but keep our fingers crossed.
-
Vulcan up and flying, on its way to Brize as I type. I believe that they still have not got their display permit yet but fingers crossed :applause: :buttrock:
-
Great news! :buttrock: So this means that Vulcan has to aquire the same permit as last year?
Cutting it a bit fine Do you reakon it will be ready in time for RIAT? ???
-
I think there is a very good chance but don't want to jinx it.
Video from yesterdays tests.

-
The Vulcan is flying at Waddo, but not landing. That means that I would think now that she will be at RIAT and hopefully taking off and landing.
-
If vulcan is displaying at Waddo there's no reason why she should't take part at RIAT
-
I believe Vulcan XH558 received it"s "PTF" this evening :buttrock:
-
I hope Vulcan (If permitted) will be based at Fairford for RIAT and not restricted to doing a couple of flybys
Got to have the distinctive “HOWL” then steep climb for her display :buttrock:
So fingers crossed
-
Just that there is a IAC PC-9 at Beauvechain International Air Show this weekend. It's 262 as seen here http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24603#p245320 (http://"http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24603#p245320")
Shame they can't send anything to RIAT especially as there is a specially Battle of Britain fly past for countries that partook in it.
-
Hi Vulcan,
There are two things you have to take into account here...
Money & permission
If I remember correctly from last year the Air Corps were allowed to attend 10 overseas events, possibly even less.
The Air Corps get numerous invites for events every year and they can only accept so many invites.
On top of that the Department of Defence has final say on participation and politics can always play a part.
All I'm trying to say is that it may not be an Air Corps decision, it could be money but it could also be politics.
Regards,
Frank.
-
Last time I checked my “1982 School Atlas” Belgium was a tad further away from England that’s if you departed from casement :stirthepot: :rotfl:
I too am slightly disipointed :airforce_sad:
Would have been nice to catch a glimpse of either a PC-9 or even an AW-139 amongst the aircraft taking part in the planned fly-past at RIAT to commemorate those who took part in the BoB
-
Did you ever think that the theme of the flypast might be the political sticking point? Or that maybe a decision was taken to support other air shows this year? Maybe the Air Corps are still waiting on final sign-off of the visit to RIAT?
Who knows...
-
Brian Cowan recently invited The Queen to Ireland. Some years ago the Naval Service took part in the 200th Anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Trafalgar. I can't see the reason being political.
-
I'm only mentioning some reasons that I've heard over the years, that's all.
Besides, I think there will be some Air Corps participation at RIAT but probably static only.
-
Vulcan XH558 officially added to the flying display. Absolutely great news :applause:  :buttrock:
-
Great news
Still one update to go this week
I hope there wont be any last minute cancellations this week
According to Metcheck the weather's looking good for the weekend of RIAT fingers crossed
-
AW139 275 has arrived for the static display at Fairford.
Joe
-
That's great news Joe :-)
Yesterday on Twitter an Aw 139 was listed to arrive today
Also a couple of suprise guests have also arrived among them French AF Gazelle and puma
