No problem Tony, thanks for the help lads.

Yes am in RDF so have requested up the chain of command for photos for an upcoming ex. this will probably get lost in the process.

Someone who has a copy is going hopefully to provide me with an A3 photo.

We train there almost all of the time so this is a good aid to use along with map models, drawings etc and as an example of the kind of intel that troops need to request/use when planning operations. Im not looking for sensitive information about locations of specific buildings/equipment etc and can provide credentials by PM or email to prove my name rank etc if anyone has any doubt.

I had actually used the search function before I posted this query, all I can find are one or two aerial photos of other locations but not gormo.

Looking for some aerial photos of gormanston (EIGN).

Tried OSI but theyre a little bit blurry.

Doesnt really matter what year but a color photo or two from last 10 - 12 years would be ideal.

Can anyone help?

The Air Corps was today praised for its quick action after a small fire broke out on a Government aircraft carrying Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern.

Mr Ahern had just left Cork Airport on the 30-year-old Beechcraft plane last night when one of his officials noticed flames flickering from a panel beside a window.

A member of crew moved the official to another seat and the Air Corps crew on board decided to return to Cork Airport where it was met by several fire crews on standby on the runway.

The minister and other passengers were brought to the airport lounge and were later transferred to Dublin by the Gulf Stream Jet at around 1am.

A spokesman for Mr Ahern said today: “We can confirm there was an incident on board a ministerial air transport plane about seven minutes after departing Cork on its return flight to Dublin on Monday evening about 9.45pm.

“Smoke and fumes were noticed emanating from a panel beside a window followed by a very short flicker of flame.

“The incident was immediately dealt with professionally by the captain, co-pilot and a crew member, and the plane returned safely to Cork Airport where Minister Dermot Ahern and three officials disembarked.



“The minister would like to thank the Air Corps crew for their professionalism and swift action and the Duty Manager and Fire Crew at Cork Airport for their prompt assistance.”

Mr Ahern was in Cork to attend a ceremony marking the one-millionth passport issued from Cork Passport Office.

He later addressed a public meeting on illegal immigrants at the Silver Springs Hotel.

Mr Ahern is believed to be a confident flyer and has clocked up thousands of air miles in his job, especially as a European envoy for UN secretary general Kofi Annan last year.

The delegation on board last night’s flight included Foreign Affairs Department secretary general Dermot Gallagher and two senior ministerial advisors.

The US-built Beechcraft plane is the Government’s third official aircraft and is usually used for short-haul trips to London or around the country.

The seven-seater was originally used for patrolling coastal waters to monitor breaches of fishing regulations.

PC9s have live fired there just after Christmas, I was down watching with Binocs... Spotted some fantastic seat of the pants flying too  '> They dropped to about 100 feet and tore out to sea from over gormo rifle range, fired rockets and gunpods at a floating target about a half mile out in the sea.

With all the rumours of the aircorps dispatching AIII's to help the tsunami disaster i just came across this and thought maybe its related?

GOAL chief executive John O'Shea has claimed that the Irish Government is on the verge of announcing a troop deployment in Sri Lanka to help victims of the Asian tsunami disaster.

Mr O'Shea, who is in Sri Lanka with the Foreign Affairs Minister said: "Dermot Ahern, from what I can see, wants the Irish aid effort to be successful. He wants Irish aid money to reach those in greatest need.

"I would be very surprised if, before the day is out, he doesn't commit troops to Sri Lanka."

yes,

best viewing point is to head down the balbriggan to gormanston road,take the Gormanston Train station turnoff, go up over the tracks on the humpback bridge, keep going about 50 yards until you reach the last bend and can look down onto the beach from above. Theres a red flag right there, you can observe perfectly from there and with a decent zoom on a good camera you should get excellent pics.

you will see off to your left the floating orange target, facing it, the PC9s fly from your left to right, opening fire over the fields before beginning to climb just as they are out over the beach and you can watch the strafing runs for hours  '>

Hope to get up again myself maybe for the rockets if they are firing them from there.

BTW deffo looked to make quite big splashes, i doubt the guns are .5 i would reckon they are larger than that.

Firing in Gormo, watched yesterday, live firing too, very impressive, I could see 4 hardpoints (2 each wing) not sure if there were rocket pods and guns, it seemed to have pods on the inner hardpoints on each wing. Only firing guns while i was there, they were very accurate too, so impressive to watch, gave me a lump in my throat! stacks of locals have been heading down to watch. sorry, no decent camera, tried to get one or two on a dodgy kodak, bring binocs too, oh yeah, and have fun! they are VERY loud, VERY nippy, and VERY cool. I envy the pilots. '>

Its worse than a badly constructed copy, it IS a Dauphin...
its an SA365N version. Hopefully when the dauphin retires, its the last we'll ever see of its like in the aircorps. Blackhawks or SeaHawks are only the way to go im afraid.

Hi all,
This is my first post here (i used to be on the old site a long time ago!! and loved it then, altho it looks much shinier and newer now) and im sure some of you will recognise my nick from boomers board.

Any way around the age limit, feck its under 27 and im only 27 now '> im devastated, i thought theyd go BA style and under 29... looks like im off to england, or is it worth talking it through with a recruiter?
