Post by: Guinness on August 03, 2006, 08:51:06 pm
Guy's,

my nephew, who is livin' in Ireland has a deal with the IAC to try to set up a lot of promotional items for the IAC.

I want to give him some help and was wondering what kind of items would you be interested in ??

I'm thinking not only patches but e.g. baseballcaps, poloshirts etc.

Please help him out and tell me your wishes !!

I would like to see good quality items for sale.

For example, in the past the AC produced a baseball cap with a Marchetti logo which looked nice (ish) but which was made from cheap material and didn't hold it's shape after wearing it a few times.

Re: Baseball Cap -
I would like a good quality cap in black or dark blue with 'AIR CORPS' on the front (in a straight line!) in silver stitching
 - and 'IRISH AIR CORPS' in an arch over the rear cutout in the cap (i.e. above the velcro strap.)

I bought a new (blank) baseball cap at an autojunble a few years ago (for €2 !) and it is the best quality cap I have bought so far! ....would look great with an 'AIR CORPS' logo on it!

(Perhaps in time the AC could produce an 'AIR CORPS' clothing brand, like the 'RAF' roundel design used in the UK! ;)

Car Stickers -
Again, with a classy design and not too big (the size of a road tax disc is ideal!). I hate large car stickers.
(The Flying Boat Museum produced a lovely designed sticker which I bought many years ago and still have. Likewise they produced a nice (good quality mug (Carrigaline Pottery) which I still drink from daily! :) ).

Car Number Plate Surrounds -
Plastic number plate surrounds with something like 'IRISH AIR CORPS - Serving The Nation' on them.
(Silver/Grey surrounds with black print).

East Coast Printers, Greenhills, Tallaght, Dublin 24 sell such surrounds. (Blank or with priniting of your choice).
I was going to get a pair for the rear of my car (and another for a friend) but they cost too much unless you buy in bulk, i.e. 50 plus surrounds.

Model Aircraft -
I would love to be able to buy small metal AC models! ...especially a Fouga!

More suggestions to follow....

Silver.

Hi all
I hope the proceeds of the sale of this tat goes to the Museum or an Air Corps designated charity, such as the Sunshine Homes....I see someone offering Cadet Class badges for sale.Useta be that they were exclusive to the actual pilot, who passed the course, as a mark of recognition for his/her passing a tough course.Bit of a shame seeing them flogged to all and sundry.Same goes for Apprentice Class badges...we used to sneer the jokers at the Baldonnel Air Shows covered in silly hats and silly badges. We found that the amount of tat worn was in direct proportion to their actual involvement in aviation.....It must be time for my Complan.Nurse!...

Guinness,
I was just thinking last night...

There maight be some legal impliccations in this thing if your nephew would decied to go into this venture without official "go ahead" from side of IAC.
I am not quite sure, though... I know you've said earlier, that your nephew dealt with IAC.

But in scale modelling world there is big fight going on at the moment about use of different manufacturer names - GMC, Lockheed, Boeing, Jeep, PWR, etc.- on model boxes and about right to sale those particular models by model manufacturers! Very shortly said...

So, there is my point: is there any law which could make any impact on this souvenir manufacture/sale?
Are, let's say, Irish national insignia or squadron logos protected "trade marks"?
Or can you use "Irish Air Corps" without permission?
And what about those a/c's? Would their manufacturers agree to see their products on "unofficial" merchandise?

I am not trying to make things worse, but we do live in a very strange times and you never know.
It would be sad to see good idea crushed under some legislative red tape or greedines of some sort...

The Government harp is certainly an official national symbol/logo and probably can't be used without permission.  Max Decals' sheet with markings for the G-IV omits the harp, perhaps for this reason.

By the way a search on Ebay for "Irish Air Corps" will show that there is already a company selling some merchandise with IAC crests etc.

Guys,

things are like this :
Dirk hás aproval by some high ranking officers in the IAC and they'll have a meeting tomorrow ( aug. 8 / 2006 ).

The items we'll start with will be a poloshirt, baseballcap, keyrings, pens and rulers.

This is to start off with.

More items ( e.g. mugs etc.) will follow later.

And FiSé... ofcourse we are in close contact with the IAC to see want's possible, legal etc.

Items will be ordered in The Netherlands as the prices here are cheaper.

Patches will stay under IAC supervision and we will not produce them.!!!!
We wil sell them but have nothing to say about layout etc.

Dirk will visit the Don ASAP to talk to the people involved.

If any news apears I'll post it here.

We hope to have the first line up and running before X-mas time.

What about golf-items?
Would they be wanted ?

Fouga.................Down !!!

no, no, no, that period is ( unfortunatelly ) behind me and I start up with the IAC now ( together with Dirk, ofcourse)

This is a great oppertunity for "the new generation" to get involved.

Now something else....Why is everybody asking for "Fouga goodies" ??
I know it's the only jet "fighter" the IAC  ever had but is it such an important part in Irish military history ?

If it is I would deffinatelly consider of gettin' some items from that odd plane.

Hope to hear.

Sorry there Fouga.

Personaly I prefer the Vampire over the Fouga.

Our idea is to go for the "modernday " air corps planes and helicopters.
Maybe in the near future we'll get to the "old stuff"

Fair point Guinness.

Perhaps a nice shot/print of an armed PC-9 would look well on mugs, tee-shirts, etc ?

Silver and others,

regarding the poloshirts, here's my idea.

Dark blue poloshirts with IAC Phoenix logo embroied in silvergrey
It IS possible to get a/c and helicopters as a logo on the left breast but to start off we would go for the IAC crest.

This polo would cost aprox. € 18,--.
When someone would like his/her name embroied on the right sleeve this will cost an extra € 5,--.

When someone wants e.g. a Fouga on the left breast..... polo's go by the 20.( no matter what sizes)
We will have to make the design digital for the company wich embroi them.
Ofcourse this'll cost money as well.
That's the reason we'll start off with a small assortment

In my opinion this is a fair deal but I was wondering what your idea is on this  ?

Also , cool pens are already found and will be sold for aprox. € 1,50.

For a reason I don't understand the IAC is looking for rulers.
They will be made too.

Again, we will start with the IAC Phoenix crest as thé logo.

If someone has another idea I would be glad to hear it.

Regards,

Guinness

Guinness, if you check the messages here you'll see that only two individuals have mentioned the Fouga, so I would not regard that as a good indicator of demand, if I were you.  My own preferred type in terms of its true significance would be the Alouette III, which has been in service for over 40 years and was also the first helicopter type for the Air Corps.

Guinness,

I presume that the Phoenix logo will be a small one ?
(A large logo would look bad)
......If it's a small logo you can take my order now !  pilot_smiley

I'd say the IAC want rulers so as to appeal to school kids.

Where will these items be sold from ?
Direct from the IAC, or via the net (Holland?) ?

Silver,

items will be sold from the net and and events e.g. carreerdays, Salthill airshow and the shows where the IAC apears.

To start off items will be sold via the net but more details will follow on this.

The Phoenix will be small on the left breast ( 5 - 7 cm. ).

Let's hear it !!

Guinness and Silver,
Please note it is not a phoenix it is an eagle, this has been discussed before some time ago, perhaps Frank the Great could recover it.
I agree with GttC how about support for the museum or is this purely a commercial enterprise utilising the knowledge of people who contribute to this forum.

Tony and all others,

Dirk is in contact with the museum ( Mick if I'm not mistaken ) and he knows about the plans.

There will be a meeting with him and Col. Fry within the next weeks.
Col. Fry is very enthousiastic with our idea and ofcourse F/Sgt. James Perkins is involved in this aswell.

Please understand it is nót a "plan to make some money" but to support the IAC in getting known to the public.

BTW, thanks for mentioning that it's an eagle instead of a Phoenix.
I'll mention it to Dirk so no mistakes will be made again.

Thanks to all for your input and I hope to recieve some more.

Guy's,

I've been talking to Dave S. today and a lot of good idea's came across.

We ( Dirk and myself ) have decided that all the "profet" goes into a fund to support the museum in a special way.

They can use a few €uro's to obtain "a special feature" and we will go for that.

Stange isn't it ?.............. a few clogs helping out the IAC museum ?
Believe me..... it's worth it.

If more info  / details come across, I'll keep you posted.

Hi lads, I've ordered polo shirts and caps last friday, is should have them next week sometime.

The polo's are Navy with the A/C crest embroidered on the left side in silver. Written underneath it is "Aer chor na H-Eireann"

The same goes for the caps. The caps are very good quality 100% pure cotton with a metal buckle closing.

Caps are going to cost around Euro 12 and the polo's are going for around Euro 25.

All profit goes to the A/C.
I'm going to split the profit up between the museum and a project called campeireann.

I'll keep ye updated on how to order. thumbsup  applause

guy's i need your advice on this:

The logo is a bit to big to embroi on the cap to have space left for text underneath it. The fella whose making them for me said i could have the logo on the front and the text on the back, the only problem is it will cost around 2.50 more. So a cap will cost around euro 15.

The alternative is only a logo and no text, this will cost around euro 12.50

OR

put writing on front, e.g. 'Air Corps' - and 'Irish Air Corps' on rear!

Guiness: Sorry if we trod on your toes.
However, a suggestion was put forward that you or the museam could carry model kits or display kits that were of IAC subjects.
The responses that followed were intended to be informative both to you  (should you wish to supply them to the museam either built or in the box) should you decide to try and supply them for sale to the public and to any out there who might be interested in buying / building/ collecting them
I had thought you might have seen that.
