Hi all
Just wondering if anyone could help with a few aviation photograghy tips. I am new here and also a very amateur photogragher with a very average digital SLR type camera. I have been trying to take as best pictures as I can but can anyone help out with some advice on the following:
I know that the faster the shutter speed the better the action photo, but what would be an advisable speed. My camera will go up to 1/2000.
Any advice on focusing. Because mine is digital the delay from pressing the shutter release to the actual shot creates problems. This is especially a problem when trying to photograph aircraft in flight. If you are photographing say a fast car you can focus on a spot in the road and wait for the car but with aircraft in flight there is nothing to focus on except the plain when it arrives.
any tips would be greatfully accepted.

Vulcan,
first of all..... welcome on board
About focusing on the plane... my trick is to keep on following the plane when it turns in and keep it focused and start "pressing the button" .
As you have a digital camera it doesn't matter that a few pics are bad.
It takes about 25 pics to get 1 nice one ( Ask Frank !!!)
Hope this helps.

Just found this site:
http://www.airshows.org.uk/photography/index.html .
This has great tips and advice on equipment, using that equipment and taking photos at airshows. Well worth a look for anyone interested in this topic.

Vulcan,
I'm just runnin' through some old posts and I might have another trick for you.
If you slow down your shutterspeed to let say 1 ( depending on the weather) and follw the plane commin' in ( or take-off)
You'll see the bachground all blurry while the plane is nice and sharp.
It'll take some practice but it looks fantastic.
Good "shooting" !!

BTW,
I like your pics, keep them comming
