Title: Cadetships 2006
Post by: wannabe on January 03, 2006, 01:53:15 pm
Im applying this year for the second time. I think it usually starts around mid to end of january!

Also does anyone know when the next stage of the recruitment process will begin after the applications are sent in (roughly)?

Is it the start of march or april?

You can print the form off the DF website as far as I know. If not then just send off and they will gladly send you one.

Oh military.ie might not be working bacuse they are currently making a new one due to come online in a few weeks as far as I know.

Does anybody know if graduates taken on as air corps cadets are commissioned as full Lt's like their equivalent army cadets ? or are they commissioned as 2Lt's like non graduates ?

Yep, they are comissioned as Full Lts like their army equivilents, but still have to do their 22 month (min) cadetship unlike the army who now only do 15 months.

Hi pilot_smiley ...
I am in 6th year and im (constantly) looking for new info and tips on Cadetships..
Does anyone have any idea or advice on whether its better to have a degree when applying for the Cadetships for A.C. or do they prefer you to be straight out of school?
Which would be better,Arts(geog/history)Degree or Science(biology)Degree??
Any Advice will be much appreciated....
Cheers..

Hi all
For those of you still in school, go to your Careers Guidance person and get them to organise a visit from an Air Corps Officer to your school. All it takes is phone-calls.If that doesn't work, then get on to Baldonnel and make contact with the PR people and make your request.I'd imagine they are getting plenty of inquiries, so make a little effort.Get your questions ready, so that it doesn't come out as a stream of nonsense. Most people are quite obliging, when it comes to giving career advice. They just don't want to be bugged by wasters or the obviously unprepared.
regards
GttC

Anyone else apply yet?Any other school leavers applying..?
12 years of your life sounds like a lot and it is,but if youre applying for it you obviously think that those 12 years will be the best if its the career you really want..To get a cadetship you need to truly want it and shine above the rest!!!

So should I be worried then? I asked a friend to drop my application form in for me, the Monday before closing, the 27th I think. He's a Sgt based in DFHQ and he said he handed into the competitions section personnally but I just wondering if I should have received a letter or a phone call saying something similiar to aerodaves? Should I start worrying now or?

Many Thanks! pilot_cool

Best of luck to everyone who has applied. Good luck to you all!

Hello all,

I live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and im going to graduate from school at the end of May. So i think 2 or 3 months ago i sent an online application just to see if i would get a reply. I dont have good grades in Math and Physic so i wanst expecting a reply. In the application i left the grades empty. So a month later i get a reply asking me to state the subjects i have taken, so i did that. Then i got an email telling to further my application and fly over and do the fitness test. i wanst able to go because it was a week before the fitness test. So someone called me up and told me i have to fly over to Ireland on the 4th of May for an Interview and then fly over again at the end of May or first week Of June for the fitness test. Which im going to do. I got another email asking me to send a paper that states that the high school diploma i will get here is equivilent to the one in Ireland. Im doing American system.

So Anyone think i stand a chance?
Regards  pilot_smiley

Educational Requirements
(3) Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to provide proof of fluency in the English language, which equates to a score of 570 in The Test of English in a Foreign Language(TOEFL).

Good to see our government's attitude to the Irish language has extended to the Defence Forces, as last time I checked, Gaeilge was not a foreign language.

Onto a less political issue, I'm strongly considering applying for the air corps cadetships, but as asked in a previous post, is it reccommended that you have a third level degree before applying or would you stand just as much a chance with just a Leaving Cert?
