Making a welcome return to the Air Tattoo this summer will be a P-3C Orion from the German Navy.
The aircraft, which made its UK airshow debut last year as part of the Deutsche Marine, performs land-based maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare roles.
Also taking part will be a German Navy Mk88A Super Sea Lynx, which operate from F122 and F123 class frigates, carrying out a variety of roles including anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue and troop and cargo transport. The aircraft were built at GKN Westland Helicopters factory in Yeovil, UK and entered service with the German Navy in 1999.
Both aircraft, which will be on static display as part of the Air Tattoo's operational theme STAR 11 (Strike, Attack and Reconnaissance), are based with the German Navy's Marinefliegergeschwader 3 'Graf Zeppelin', at Naval Air Station Nordholz, north of Bremen.
The German P-3Cs were bought from the Netherlands Navy Maritime Patrol in 2006 to succeed the obsolete Breguet Atlantiques. In addition to the German Navy, the P-3 Orion is in use by numerous navies and air forces around the world including Japan, Greece, the US and Pakistan. Their primarily roles are maritime patrol, reconnaissance, anti-surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare operations.
Aircraft Operations Deputy Director Rob Windsor said he was delighted the German Navy would be present at RIAT on the 40th anniversary of the event.
"The German Navy has supported the airshow for many years and has helped our event gain its excellent reputation worldwide. We are extremely grateful."

SPITFIRES RETURN TO AIR TATTOO – 40 YEARS ON
Two historic Spitfires that appeared at the first Royal International Air Tattoo in 1971 will be joining celebrations marking the airshow's 40th anniversary at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire this summer.
Spitfire Mk9 (MH434), which is currently owned by The Old Flying Machine Company, flew into North Weald airfield on May 31, 1971 for the first Air Tattoo. It was joined by a Spitfire PRXIX (PM631) from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
In total, 94 aircraft attended the first airshow, including aeroplanes from France, Denmark, Norway and Austria. RAF aircraft included a Nimrod, four F-4 Phantoms, a Britannia and a Wessex helicopter.
Spitfire Mk9 (MH434) was flown to North Weald by former Red Arrows leader and legendary aerobatics display pilot Ray Hanna.
Air Tattoo Chief Executive and a founder member of the airshow said: "I can still recall the cold sweat I felt when Ray made his first approach on arrival at North Weald. He was so low the tips of his propeller seemed to be touching the ground. These days, airfield regulations insist we hire in lawnmowers when we need the grass cut! However, Ray did go on to perform fantastically in MH434 and he helped cement the Air Tattoo's reputation for staging spectacular aerial displays."
MH434, which has starred in films including A Bridge Too Far, Battle of Britain and Operation Crossbow, was built in 1943 and saw action over France and Belgium during World War Two. Its combat record of seven and a half kills includes shooting down a Focke-Wulf FW-190 during a mission to escort USAAF B-17 bombers in 1943 and claiming a half-share in the downing of a Messerschmitt Bf-109G in northern France in the same year.
PM631 currently flies with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) and is its longest-serving aircraft having displayed for 54 years. Built in November 1945 and delivered to the RAF in 1946, the high-altitude, photo reconnaissance aircraft came into service too late to perform operational roles in World War Two.
After being modified for meteorological work, she was leased to Short Bros and was flown by civilian pilots with the Temperature and Humidity Monitoring Flight based at Hooton Park and Woodvale until joining the BBMF in 1957.
In addition to celebrating its 40th anniversary, this summer's Air Tattoo, on July 16-17, will host a gathering of specially-decorated 'Tiger' aircraft from the NATO Tiger Association. 'Tiger' aircraft come from NATO squadrons that have a Tiger or Big Cat in their emblem and their association marks its 50th anniversary in 2011. The 'operational' spotlight STAR 11 will focus on aircraft and equipment involved in the roles of Strike and Reconnaissance.

Hi Joey, Another year has arrived Eh! RIAT are keeping things pretty close to their chest this year by the looks of it. There is a Turkish F-16 in the flying display and a German Bronco in the static which is quite nice. There is apparently an update on the FRIAT section of the RIAT site that we can't get into and that is suppose to be an outstanding update. Us mortals will just have to wait and see I suppose. There are a lot of "hints" on UKAR but not sure if I would believe all of them.

Some UKAR members seem to be devoted FRIAT members and in past forums haven't been to far off the mark
It been a tiger meet as one of the themes this year, ill be looking forward to the static line up
I was hoping the Frecce Tricolori would display this year too

RIAT are only publishing participants that have confirmed in writing as they come in. It could still be a great RIAT. The Norwegian F-16's are from a Tiger squadron, so we could get some nice paint work there. Could be at least 4 F-16's in the flying display this year with the Norwegians, Turks, Belgians and most likely the Dutch.

Oh I agree BB. I was just making the point that there were 2 A-10's at Salthill an a couple of occasions and that is a rare sight at any air show, even if it was only a few fly by's. Looking forward to that display this year, the spare could well be on static as well.

This was inevitable folks
At the moment, plans for a Typhoon and Tornado GR4 demo for the 2011 have been cancelled due to operations over Libya. At present, the usual amount of ground support for the teams is unavailable due to the need to support the aircraft operating in the Mediterranean and display practices have been halted. The Daily Telegraph has also written a story on the lack of available Typhoon pilots for operations over Libya.
Airshows have recently received the allocation letters detailing their RAF support for the coming season which will include the Red Arrows, RAF Falcons, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, 208(R) Sqn Hawk solo, 207(R)/72(R) Tucano, and the 1 EFTS Tutor T1 as well as the occasional display from the SAR Sea King. The latter will be part of celebrations of the 70th Anniversary of RAF Search and Rescue.
No doubt RIAT will be affected shame

Big Shame about the RAF Typhoon and Tornado, but I suppose they are there for the job they are doing and not to satisfy air show needs. Can hope maybe for a Spanish Typhoon display. The following have also now been added.

However, the Red Devils have now reformed, flying SF-260 aircraft, and they plan to return to the Air Tattoo in the summer to celebrate their historic links with the airshow.
A spokesman for the Red Devils said he was delighted the new team would be taking part in the Air Tattoo. He said: "I hope our participation will serve to emphasise not only our historical links but also the enduring relationship that exists between the Belgian Air Force at the Air Tattoo."
Air Tattoo Chief Executive Tim Prince, who helped found the airshow in 1971, said the Red Devils' would help conjure up a wonderful sense of nostalgia at this summer's event. He said: "We had some good times at those early shows and I recall the Diables Rouges, with their Fouga Magisters, performed beautifully. Now the cynic in me thinks " the inclusion of the B2 was just a cheap marketing ploy to boost ticket sales ,
But the curious thinks " Mmmh. Could this a clue to what the USAF Might send

I think the cynic in you may well be right Joey. There was a Raptor on the poster for the 2007 show, but wasn't there or even on the list at any time. Hope there is a B-2 there, haven't seen one before.

Its been reported that The Airbus A400M suffered engine problems and as a result grounded the A400M ahead of the upcoming Paris Airshow and has been temporary suspended from all non essential flying including displays

I wasn’t expecting any IAC participation to any overseas Airshows in light of our current belt tightening situation, and because the great work the :ireland: IAC did in response to the wild fires earlier this year, I presumed that this may have use up a lot of precious operational resources, so great news indeed :ireland: :applause: :airforce_grin:

There are reports from Facebook that a FULLY LOADED Eurofighter Typhoon from BAE will display at RIAT
I won't get to excited until I see it on official sites but has to be a brilliant last minute update .....
On a slightly worrying note....
There are reports that the Vulcan XH-558 has been dogged with engine troubles let's hope she can make it to RIAT

Not sure what the story is with the IAC CASA ? it's only been confirmed for about a week or so and now cancelled ?? :banghead: Maybe they'll replace it with something else, would be nice to see a PC9 there for a change, instead of the usual AW139, as good as they are.

It's seems as if The IAC have completely pulled out of RIAT
I think the PC9s will be elsewhere according to an earlier post

Unless the original slot has been kept open for the CASA it Would be pretty hard to reorganise everything. Unfortunately it's not just a case of turning up and parking.
On another note, there is an ex-IAC Chipmunk going, still in it's Irish paintscheme :buttrock:

Loose one CASA and gain another !! CASA 295 AEW down for static, very nice :buttrock: Only launched on June 7th and made first appearance at Paris Air Show. Looking forward to seeing this one.

The fully loaded Typhoon is expected to put on a cracking display similar to the display performed at last year's farnborough
