It has been said on the RIAT site that there is a strong possibilty of some interesting stuff from the East this year. :applause:

Never seen one upclose, and a flying osprey too!!!! hats off to DBH for this Coup
and other exciting rumblings regarding Royal Air Force of Oman
quote from Airtattoo.com
"Oman: The Air Tattoo received a very supportive and generous letter recently from the Commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman stating that not only did he hope to attend the airshow this summer but that it was his intention that either one of his air force's new A320s or one of its "venerable" C130H aircraft would participate. We are looking forward to receiving confirmation in due course. "

It's turning out to be a cracking good Airtattoo
the change in the RIAT dates too may have a bearing on the weather side too so here's to blue skies!

Airtattoo quotes as follows :
"USAF: The 48th Fighter Wing of the US Air Force, based at RAF Lakenheath, has written indicating that it hopes to be able to support this summer's Air Tattoo with both HH-60s and F-15s. The letter goes on to state: "Our support will be contingent on the 48th Fighter Wing's operational needs in order to support our current real world commitments".
UAE: Though not yet confirmed, we anticipate that the United Arab Emirates' Al Fursan team, which will be making its European debut at RIAT in July, will be supported by a C-17.
Regretfully, we have received notification from the Commander of the Latvian Air Force that "due to some unforeseen circumstances the Latvian Air Force won't be able to participate in the Royal International Air Tattoo." They had been due to send a Mi-17 helicopter"
Unquote
I hope we'll get to see a flying display from the Lakenheath based F-15, like we got from RIAT 2007 :buttrock:

At least they have RIAT down on their website

Two more cracking additions to the flying display :buttrock:
Swedish JAS-39C Gripen :buttrock:
French Air Force Dassault Rafale :buttrock:

RIAT to make special announcement tomorrow, interesting ! Hoping for something unexpected and juicy, but think it will probably be the Koreans.
-
Or a MIG ???
-
As expected, its the Korean Black Eagles. Most welcome indeed. :applause: :buttrock: A big logistical exercise in getting them over here. They are going to be dismantled in Asia and then flown to the UK in a fleet of large cargo planes and then reassembled. This year is going to be a cracker !!

It quotes :
"French Navy: Talks with the French Navy concerning the participation of some of their assets at Fairford in July are encouraging and we hope to be in a position to make an announcement shortly.
Breitling: Talks with Breitling concerning the participation of some of their aircraft at this summer's airshow are at an advanced – and potentially exciting - stage. Breitling are great supporters of the Air Tattoo, provided aircraft and sponsorship for a number of years"
end Quote.
It's only May !!!!!

So looking forward to RIAT the flying programme is filling up DBH have Realy pulled out the stops and dipped into the kitty to stage a great RIAT
Do you think this years show could be up there along the best RIAT ? Vulcan???
Sorry lads. altho it would be lovely, i cant see RIAT ever coming up to the standards of the old shows. 1991, the gulf was salute was awesome, and some of the later 1990s shows had a fantastic selection of eat european types. One year, maybe 95 or 96, there was a Bulgarian Mig 23 in the flying display. Hard to match that .

I was merely comparing the last decade ie: 00s! It would be nieve and silly of me to even try to compare the IATS//RIATs back in the day!
We'll never go back to the days of rows of KCs , Hercs, along with rare & exotic like SR71s F111s B1s Bears & BUFFS ....
Those days are long gone!
Also back in the day military Airshows were just that ! Airshows nowdays they're now family days out with more "non aviation" entities now appearing at airshows Concerts , fairground attractions ect:
Imho DBH are in some way attempting to go back to basics this year in dispensing with noisy fairground attractions interfering with the flying programme By moving the above mentioned attractions away from the crowdline
Another positive is no "Z List" POP artist to soak up what little there is in the kitty , with could lead that bit extra to cover the cost of more exotic and rarely seen display aircraft/display teams to attend!
So all in all I feel DBH have listen to the gripes of enthusiast and in some way attempted to go back to the more classic format
Only a bit mind you .......
Rant over !

According to the Voice of RIAT on UKAR the A400M will be in the flypast and the flying display, which is great news.
-
It's shaping up to be a good show.
-
Only small update today, RAF Chinook flying and Merlin static and Italian C27 flying, both very nice. Also strong rumours of a JASDF KC 767J for the static, now that would be a very nice addition if true.

A worrying development regarding Vulcan-XH-558's attendance at this year's RIAT :(
This statement taken from the VTTS Newsletter
"The technical team spent yesterday (Tuesday) investigating the engine damage on XH558, to determine its cause and to start assessing the timescale and cost of rectification.
We have already established that both engines No.1 and No.2 on the port side are sadly beyond repair, both having suffered blade damage and the effect of excessive heat.
The primary cause of the damage has been determined to be ingestion of silica gel desiccant bags. The most likely sequence of events was that material was ingested by No.1 engine, which surged and suffered LP compressor blade failure. Debris was then sucked into No. 2 which then also failed.
All relevant agencies and technical authorities have been informed. "We have been greatly reassured by the support from industry colleagues, and would like to thank all those who have offered help," said engineering director Andrew Edmondson.
We would also like to place on record our thanks to all at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield for their swift and professional reaction on Monday, whilst also apologising to those affected by delays or diversions.
In accordance with normal procedures, a formal investigation into the incident has been opened, chaired by the Chairman of the Trust's Safety Review Committee.
The technical inspection has so far showed that no airframe damage was sustained, with damage being limited to the engines. The next step is to replace the damaged engines with two from the Trust's remaining stock. Timescales for a return to flight are not yet clear – we will of course update the web site with progress and give details in the e-newsletters each week.
"We are deeply sorry that this incident has happened, and at this time in 2012. The additional unplanned costs are clearly very worrying as resources are, as ever very tight" said the charity's chief executive, Dr. Robert Pleming. "We are actively working on a plan to recover our Jubilee season schedule and we will share this with you as soon as practical via the newsletter, Facebook page, Twitter feed and the web site."
With many thanks to all for continuing to support Vulcan XH558."
The VULCAN Pre-Airshow curse has struck again im afraid :banghead:
-
Shame to see the Super Etendard has pulled out of the flying display
Still we have a static Etendard to drool over
Great to see the LN F-15s on static
static park filling up nicely
ROLL ON JULY ! :buttrock:
-
This quote from the Airtattoo Facebook page
"Due to the volume of aircraft that need to be added to this week's participation list, there will be a delay in the publication of our update. We hope to have it online by 5pm today. Please accept our apologies for the wait. :-)"
End Quote
Any wishlist suggestions?

I didn’t get a chance to visit theA139 last year :airforce_cool:
There was nothing from the air corps last year, Joey, sadly, so hoping they may send a CASA this year.

JASDF KC-767J now confirmed, this show is going to be so great. This time next week I'll be in Swindon looking forward to tomorrow morning ! :buttrock: :buttrock:
-
Looking forward to next week too I would have like to have been attending one of the arrival days with all those juicy static hardware on display I finally invested in a "decent" camera so looking for some camera setting tips for fast jet display shots  :chillpill:
-
What camera is it? Basically if your after sharp pictures of jets flying and no arty motion blur you need a high shutter speed. I use Aperture Prority on my Nikon (AV on Canon) and leave it wide open to start with(the smallest f stop number). A shutter speed of 1/800 and above should suffice.
This is a good starting point for sharp images. (providing you've enough light to produce a high shutter speed for your given ISO which can be adjusted also)
For props and helis you need to slow your shutter speed down to at least 1/200th of a second so use Shutter Prority (TV on Canon) and a steady hand

Thanks for the info machlooper
The camera is Fuji Finepix S4530 digital bridge camera 30X zoom 14Mp

Thanks again machlooper for the advice

Only going Saturday myself (can't hitch a ride seen as there's only 2 seats in what we're sending :airforce_wink: )
Trying to figure out a plan of action. A quick run down the static during a parachute display or something?
Have to get that B2

A400 was pulled from farnborough because engine trouble seems the A400 is cursed
though I''m a bit suprised by the Spartan going static would it have anything to do with weather ? :banghead:
-
At least the Vulcan is flying again
-
A400 has arrived at Fairford :applause:
Must be fixed ?
-
Maybe for static display the weather will have an impact in the flying display tomorrow
-
The A400 was taken out of the static park and is on the northside, I wonder will it fly tomorrow?

Can anyone tellme how to upload pics which are say 3mb large to a forum post? Have pics of AC PC9 crew but cannot find a way of downsizing them on Windows Photo Gallery.
-
Have you got any photo editing software at all? Did any software come with your camera, usually there is editing software supplied with a new digital camera.
Failing that you should be able to download basic software for free.
Your other alternative is to upload to a service such as Photobucket and they'll resize the picture automatically upon upload. Then you can post the link to the picture on the forum.

The PC9 crew on Sunday morning....don't think they had a great view of the flying with a big Luftwaffe plane beside them, so they must have found somewhere else to watch from!
