Been thinking of joining the Air Corp as a recruit for a while now but need some convincing!? Tried the whole college thing last year and didn't suit me. Hated my course.
What sort of jobs would I be able to do as a recruit? What sort of opportunities, perks, etc.?
Would being a recruit help if I went for a cadetship in the near future?
Any advice, info or opinions would be most appreciated lad or ladies?

I could be wrong on this but as far as I know the air corps only take recruits from other sections of the PDF as required.
You can however join as an apprentice to eventually become an aircraft mechanic. This probably would give you an advantage when going for the cadets.

Actually I just had a look at military.ie and I'm totally wrong! They're taking recruits directly this year. http://www.military.ie/careers/aircorps_recruits.htm
Sorry bout that.

Sully, what course did you do and hate so much that you want to join-up? Why not try a different course?

Hey Flyboy,
Was doing Industrial Engineering in GMIT. I didn't so much hate the course but hated the maths! Was never much good at maths but said I'd try it but to no surprise I failed (granted I didn't try very hard).
I don't think I'll do another course cause I'm not to suited to college life. More of a hands-on kinda guy. Like to get dirty!!!
So it looks like an apprenticeship or the Defence forces.

Anyone know if Sully got an apprenticeship? I wasn't any good at maths but got through the exams in the hostel. You don't think it's of any use at the time but now when I've got a repair to do and the edge margin is 2d x 3/16th with an edge radius of 1/2 inch, etc. ( I get someone else to do it! )
