Turkey we already have troop transports.

answers
1)enough to outnumber the bad guy
2)you tend to use the same heli's for each wave putting in spares to replace broken ones
3)one type of heli
4)same type for casevac. what type of heavy weapons support, airborne, arty, what?
5)if its big enough to carry troops its big enough to relieve islands, but maybe not plush enough for VIP, then again HMX-1 use VH-60.
6)trainer required. blackhawk too big and complicated for learner drivers
7)yes but you get a dauphin. a bit good at everything but no real good at any one thing        rambling....

Irish Air Corps / SA365F help please

The back of the heli is kept as empty as possible for sar, no loose articles flying about. just a troop type seat behind the right hand pilot and possibly a mat on the floor. all the gear is in the boot and anything that is needed is brought into the cabin depending on the job at hand. ie stretcher for injured fisherman etc.

USCG dauphin is not practically the same as ours, the radome is shorter, they winch from the door behind the pilot not like ours which is the rear one, our tailboom is a tad longer, different engines and intake fit, different hoist etc. the wheels retract in fully the same as the N but the u/c doors are not fitted to save weight. odd i know considering they are composite and hardly weigh a thing, but when you fill the boot with avionics every little bit helps..Iac only fits one hoist type to the F and on a good day there is one for each a/c.the a/c is rigged as if the hoist is permanently fitted. ie. ofset a little to the left due to the fact the hoist is so far of the a/c centerline stuck out on the arm as it is.

its actually twelve helis(7xal3, 4xdauphin(one in storage), 1xgazelle). the squirrel and 135 belong to the cops. The reason older helis are more maintenance intensive is because the maintenance intervals are shorter, and there is more to do at each inspection compared to newer helis which have less to do at each inspection and longer intervals, usually 50 or 100 hrs .

Dauphins are definitely gone starting this summer.
So if you can do approx 2000 hrs with seven allouettes
Ergo with a newer type of heli with lower maintenance needs you can fly the same hours with less aircraft. It doesn't make sense but you have to remember a few facts
A. we have the lowest per capita spending on defence in europe if not the developed world
B. the brightest TD doesn't often get lumbered with defence
C. defence budget is managed by bean counters whose only aim to show how many beans saved not to provide "value for money" for want of a better word

Also consider guys the article in flight says we operate two squirrels for the gardai, there is one and an EC 135. small point but they might check their facts.

Irish Air Corps / Supportable fleets

Imshi , if by force structure do you mean tech. support , if so then I would have to agree. There are definitely not enough bods on the ground. But cos of proffesional pride the guys do more and more with less and less, soon they'll be able to do everything with nothing. Seriously though its El Capo's plan that the 2nd line and deeper servicing go out to civie contract.

Irish Air Corps / The leaving's a b***h!

Last I heard it was pass or fail. But saying that the demand for apprenticeships in the corps isnt what it used to be, so you might be ok. The time for the run for entry isnt that bad, its less for serving members. Are you that unfit???
