Sealion is correct it was in Londons Docklands, now that was a Toys for Boys show. Maybe the sources are accurate on IMO maybe they are just close but not quite really there.

Irish Air Corps / Navy Helicopter Ops?

I don't think they will operate HPV's either, but the much talked about possibility of a new ship should have Helicopter capabilities. If we are buying into this whole ERA, self deployable and self maintainable concept. We would need to be looking at such a ship. Interesting at the recent Military exhibition in the docklands there were quite a few Irish voices to be heard and they had a big interest in the latest Nautical offerings.

Pilatus
I read those posts alright, but I am taking them with a pinch of salt. There are quite a few designs in discussion and most have helicopter capabilites and these seem to be the preference of the NS.

Hang on a second here, the new talked about NS ship will not have Helicopter capabilites? Are you sure and where did you get this information from, can you confirm this is fact?

Irish Air Corps / Dauphin upgrade?
« on: November 10, 2005, 10:02:45 pm »
Sousa, totally agree with the navy operating there own helicopters and the down grading of the dauphins. I mentioned it before and got a backlash. But with the Eithne no longer able to accept aircraft, unless she is brought back up to spec it is a no goer. Unless the new ship the Navy is talking about is allowed its own Naval operated helicopters which I presume is still a no no as far as the air corps is concerned. The GASU should be as GTTC pointed out, run by the guards for the guards. But this is Ireland and nothing is like it should be.

Irish Air Corps / Dauphin upgrade?

Hi GTTC
I agree with you about the Dauphins, tart them up so they could be used to ferry the suits around. No point using up good military aircraft to fly them to the official opening of an envelope. Plus I think they could use the gazelle for this role also or get some military use out it.

A colleague of mine worked on the Gazelle in the Britsh Army, where they were nicknamed "Floppies" they could carry out full in the field repairs on the craft. As the pilots had a habit of damaging them. He says they were easy to work on and great workhorses.

Brilliant photo, keep them in service until we have enough new machines to replace them.

Totally understand Sealion, but I still maintain that the concept of it is still the same.
Plus if you don't ask you don't get.

If that is the case and I am sure it is, why did'nt the Dauphins get a re-furb, or was it the case if we don't ask and say they are past there sell by date we may get new helicopters then we can try and slip the Dauphin re-furb in there.
