Irish Air Corps / Bush preparations?
« on: June 21, 2004, 11:06:18 pm »
Fianna Fail

you may wish to welcome the visit of Bush but it seems to me that most people in Ireland - and probably most members of this site - do not agree with you.

His visit has led to an incredible erosion of the civil liberties of Irish citizens in our own country.
If you're unlucky enough to live in the vicinity of Shannon Airport you now need a pass to travel to & from your own home.
11 miles of a dual carriageway on a national route are closed for the duration of his visit. WHY?
Thousands of Gardai and soldiers are called up for duty - yet many parts of nearby Limerick city remain a no go zone for Gardai!
If a similar security arrangement was undertaken in the USA for the visit of a foreign leader there would be an outcry.

Leader of the free world my ar*e.

Irish Air Corps / PC-9 delivery dates
« on: June 16, 2004, 10:17:48 pm »
Can anyone confirm how many PC-9Ms have actually been delivered to Baldonnel?

261, 262 & 263 were the first to arrive on April 21st.
265 arrived around May 17/18th.
264 is reported to have arrived last week.
What about 266 & 267? - a photo on this site suggests 267 was also delivered last week (June 7th).
Finally, how long will 260 be in Austria for weapons training/evaluation?

Grateful for any info

Is the S-61 still based/operating from Sligo for the Air Corps or has it been returned to its civil owners?  '<img'>

Irish Air Corps / AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS - SECURITY THREAT
« on: February 09, 2004, 10:41:56 pm »
The Irish Spotters mailing list is tame in comparison to some UK based lists and a quick search on Google will show sites for Holland, Belgium and Germany with comprehensive lists of movements at all the main operational military bases in Europe.

If a serious terrorist decides to target an aircraft or airfield there are far more detailed sites for them to view than this one.  Paranoia regarding security seems to have replaced common sense - does anyone really believe that Ireland is less safe from terrorism now compared to 20 years ago when war was raging just across the border?

Irish Air Corps / AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS - SECURITY THREAT
« on: February 05, 2004, 09:38:32 pm »
Details of military aircraft movements at Irish airports are already freely available on another Irish aviation web site. This week alone there have been reports of 3 C-130s at Shannon, a Portuguese Air Force bizjet at Dublin and the US Navy C-130 at Baldonnel - I don't see what security threat is posed by these reports - or similar reports posted to this site.

It certainly looks good - but I'm not so sure it should be left outside on permanent display - I remember that a Vampire was 'displayed' at the officer's mess some years ago and it really suffered from our damp climate.

Without risking a breach of the official secret's act, can anyone give details of EU military bizjets that have visited Baldonnel since Ireland assumed the Presidency?

Reports on another forum suggest that a RAF C130 was at Baldonnel on Monday - and possibly last Friday?
Can anyone confirm and give more details.

Can anyone shed light on the current status of the S-61?
Is it still operating out of Sligo - or has it's lease been cancelled?

Yuletide felicitations to one & all!

Irish Air Corps / Alouettes at Marseilles
« on: May 31, 2003, 12:09:39 pm »
Alouettes 197 & 214 were seen at Marseilles Marignane on 26th May as per a report on a military spotters list.

Does anyone know what they are over there for? Are they there for heavy maintenance or just on a jolly?
