Pretty sure I just saw a light coloured Huey over Naas - Baldonnel visitor?

No Huey in BAL - it was probably all white Bell 205A G-UHGB which dropped into Kilrush for fuel.

That's the one - thanks a million Snapper!

If all the formation flying about today is anything to go by, the PC-9's might be escorting herself in

Can anyone explain why they would persist with the tail rotor instead of blowing air out the tail - as has been demonstrated for decades now, surely that would have a vastly decreased the radar signature?

 :airforce_laugh:

If my memory is right the 139 was behind - maybe it was armed & the crew were getting their own back for a speeding ticket!

Spotted two helicopters in close formation just a few minutes ago - just before 2AM, I guess it's the Secret Squirrels on the way to the Curragh or perhaps just NVG formation training - either way, nice surprise as I stood on the door step having a cigarette!  :blues:

Thought I was losing it when I saw a strange shape approaching my direction  ;D

Front Heli had main lights off for obvious reasons, but Heli 2 was fully lit.

An unusual formation today - Garda EC-135 & an AW-139, close formation near Naas, probably a photoshoot.

The 139 really needs to pitch back an enormous amount at slow speeds

Haven't seen this published - but it generally is, so not threading on OPSEC -

Just saw a formation of 3 PC-9's fly overhead, first two seemed to have gunpods on - anyone know if they're doing weapons training, or was this a photoshoot?

Is this the 4th or 5th occasion this year?

I wonder is it related to the refit they received recently, or just age..

Not good.

I should clarify - I'm to the west of Bal and can't see the airfield here, but am on a very busy stretch of airspace for the IAC - so familiar with the profiles of aircraft climbing out from Bal.

Saw the landing lights initially coming towards my direction and thought it might be the Casa, but what really got my attention was that it appeared to do a very fast shift south then a few seconds later resumed back west.

In a housing area so didn't want to go out into the middle of the road and gawk upwards only to have the neighbours look out and think they have a peeping tom! Also I was up to watch the F1 race from Korea

It's possible I've misidentified some traffic from EIDW going an oddly circuitous route, but don't think so.

(When I say West and South, I'm giving ballpark directions, probably more WSW-SSE-WSW although don't quote me on that! Maybe I was overtired and overestimated the speed and given a casa driver a great laugh.. anyway..)

Just wondering if anyone would be able to let me know if there was a jet departure from Bal this morning - was just standing outside and saw a rather spritely climb out reminiscent of a fast jet. Could only see the lights. Headed west, at least initially.

Cheers
