I think german F104's,team viking, came over for the cancelled show in cork in 1985(it was washed, ahh i remember it well)They stayed in shannon,i think, and they did a bit of flying around the south of the country. So there may be some truth in story  'stir_the_pot'

Irish Air Corps / Air Corps To Use Birr?
« on: July 14, 2007, 08:45:14 am »
The area around the airfield in birr is getting very built up ,so it would be a bit strange, The home owners near by might be a little less than happy with the increase in traffic. That said there ,is a lot of military training flights around the offaly area . '<img'>

Have heard that the Merlin team has been withdrawn from all dispalys for 2007,does anyone know if this includes static display or only flying displays, great pity as their display was one of my highlights of last years show.I guess operational demands have caused this, but then again thats what they are there for.    '<img'>

Order and options cancelled due to a legal challange by the unsuccessful bidders, mainly eurocopter. The then us ambassador,Richard Egan, had offered offsets to help win the deal. This work was to be freighter conversion work for TEAM Aer Lingus i think.
Well thats how i remember it,could be wrong, advancing years and all that   'thumbsup'

Air Corps News / EC135 and AW139 articles in February An Cosantoir
« on: March 10, 2007, 12:07:23 pm »
Some very interesting comments in the magazine ,they hope to have eventually, finance permitting ,4 EC135's and 8 AW 139's and there is also a hope that the heavy lift option will be looked at again, the EH101 was mentioned in particular.

Had my first sight of one of the aw139's this afternoon,(dont know which one ,unable to see the serial and no camera handy )it was flying across the midlands, nice turn of speed and much quieter than i had imagined.Btw the ELT does stand out very much ,even on a very dull day,but then again thats whats its for.   '<img'>
