The Air Corps celebrate 50 years of heli operations this week. Unfortunately due to the current economic climes the much talked about photo shoot/ families day/ open day (or whatever) had to be axed

Ps: at no fault of the Air Corps or DF of course, these things are decided at a higher level.

At a guess I'd say budgetary restrictions wouldn't allow such an event. It's one thing having a few invited guests at Baldonnel or a small tour but to open the gates to the public I'm sure would be a different ball game altogether. I may be wrong but I'm sure some sort of public liability insurance would have to be in place and this is huge money wise. Another stumbling block I suspect would be aircraft flying. Not sure if the rules apply to the DF but as soon as an aircraft takes off and does any sort of fly/by other then normal ops it becomes an Airshow and this changes the rules!

'Alpha Whiskey' is used for a singleton and 'Wolf Section' for a formation with Wolf 1/2/3 etc being the callsigns of individual aircraft in that formation.
'Wolf' derives from AW-139 'Wolfhound', the official name of the type in service .
'Irish' is used when an Air Corps aircraft travels abroad so the jury will be out on that one
So if they were a pair it would be Wolf unless of course you heard Medevac 112 which was also busy that night.

FSX would do the job for €90!!! Maybe another couple of hundred for some linked monitors and controls

Yeah looks like its on the lens as its not in focus. If it were on the sensor it would be in focus. Dirt and dust on the sensor show up on photos that have been taken at slower shutter speeds (the blurred rotors) because the depth of field is much greater than those taken at higher shutter speeds .
It's a pain when being all dangerous and hand holding panning shots of aircraft at really slow shutter speeds. Every bit if microscopic dust shows up.
(Ill assume you know what DOF is? Anyhoo, it's the amount of the subject that's sharp in front of and behind the point of focus, just in case!)

Hi,
I would scan the negs and at as high a res as possible , it may take longer but will be worth it if you ever want large high quality prints off them.
After storing them digitally you can then easily reduce them in size on whatever photo editing software you have (assuming you have such software ?)
Lab quality prints are printed at 300 dpi but I have scanned 35 mm negs at 1000 dpi to give maximum potential for future use (even scanned large format negs at 2000+ dpi!)
The resolution of monitors and hence the net is 72 dpi so this is what your aiming for to put then on the web.
