Scale Aircraft Modelling / IPMS Ireland Nationals 2012
« on: May 29, 2012, 01:30:18 pm »
Hi guys,
I am taking the liberty to invite you all to this year's IPMS Ireland Nationals.
The event will be held on September 15th/16th, at the Atlantic Airventure Park in Shannon, Co. Clare. We are hoping that the airport just around the corner could attract some extra modellers with their creations from abroad, but we'll see how things will turn up on the day.

...webpage for the event:

and you are most welcome

Irish Air Corps / Irish Vampire dashboard
« on: December 09, 2009, 01:58:03 pm »
Hi guys,
Just working on Classic Airframe Vampire in 1/48 and run into troubles straight from the start: I have a very good photograph taken in August of 2007 of the vampire interior and the kit dashboard is totally different to the one in IAC machines  :banghead:.
I can redo the dials and switches, but there are some brackets on the top on both sides of the Irish Vampire dashboard... are these for gunsights?
And would anyone have a picture of those fitted?

Thanks

Scale Aircraft Modelling / New 1/48 Seafire
« on: March 20, 2008, 02:08:19 pm »
Just got some news from CMK again...
They were talking about their new Spitfire Mk.Vc/Seafire III in 1/48 for a while, but it looks like that there has been some development. First test shots are out and, as I've heard, this kit should be in that new trend of "overplating" or "overlapping sheets" don't know how to say it in one word. Basically, it shouldn't be nice and smooth kit as we know it, but CMK is trying to replicate overlapping of aluminium plates like are on the real machine...

Can't wait to see it and, eventually, get it build. One more IAC Seafire will be nice on my shelf, so we'll see

Scale Aircraft Modelling / SIAI Marchetti out in 1/72
« on: February 19, 2008, 02:24:14 pm »
CMK Kits finally released resin kit of Marchetti SF-260 under their Planet Models brand. I have to say with nearly one year delay.
Don't have any info or pictures of it yet. There's no mention of it on CMK webpage either, so it's hard to say what decall options are included. Box art depicts all orange Italian machine.
It was advertised in latest Tamyia Model Magazine, so we'll see.

Aviation Photography / Rome plane spotting
« on: October 22, 2007, 09:09:01 pm »
Have never seen one of these before, so you can imagine my surprise when landing at Rome Ciampino airport and there were at least 8 - 10 of them on different locations all over the place.
On my way back I tryed to take at least some half decent pictures, but what you can do when shooting through the greasy glass of shuttle bus/ryanplane...
Don't know what is the "civie" one though

Irish Aviation History / Foynes Historic Flight
« on: June 27, 2007, 07:44:05 pm »
"Historic Re-enactment Flight - Join us for our celebration of the 70th Anniversary to the day of the first passenger trial flights by Pan American Airways and BOAC. As part of the festivities, Captain Patrick White and his son are flying their vintage aircraft, a PBY Catalina Flying Boat, from Botwood, Newfoundland arriving in Foynes on July 6th. This event will kick off our 3 day festival, July 6th, 7th and 8th."

This is taken from Flying Boat Museum site, but no other info available /as yet ?/ and link on Foynes festival doesn't work...
I am thinking, that would be nice to see Catalina landing on the River Shannon and to visit museum afterwards...

I thought, that maybe some of you will know something more about this event?

Thanks

« on: October 05, 2006, 07:00:44 pm »
Hi guys,

when I went through, IAC goodies topic, and saw few last posts in there, I thought, it might be worth it to set up separate tread dealing with models -and all things around- of IAC airplanes...

I start it with list of models in my collection, all of them are plastic kits in 1:48 scale:

Built
Hawker Hurricane Mk IIc, Hasegawa/Revell
Westland Lysander Mk III - converted to Mk II, Gavia
Miles Magister M14A, Special Hobby
Fairey Battle TT Mk.I, Classic Airframes
Spitfire Tr Mk.IX, Hasegawa/Brigade Models conversion
Seafire Mk.III, Airfix/Tamiya kit bash

On the shelf
Bristol F2B Fighter, Roden
R.A.F. SE 5a, Roden
SA 365N Dauphin II, Trumpeter
D.H. Vampire T11/T22, Classic Airframes
Lockheed Hudson Mk I, Classic Airframes

I was just thinking, that this could be of interest to anybody who likes jets.
I know about this web page for some time now, but in the last issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling is article on MiG 21 of CAF and this web page is listed in referencies. Surprisingly, not only for me, but for lads involved in 211airspace as well...
It's not in English, so far, but you don't need any language knowledge to browse through those pictures.

Irish Aviation History / Mystery wing on Baldonnel scrapyard
« on: May 14, 2006, 07:44:32 pm »
I was browsing through some pics of Seafires on Baldonnel scrapyard and I found this strange looking wing. To be perfectly honest, I have no idea, what this piece belongs to... It looks like spitfire wing, but... With camouflage on it? I am thinking about Hurricane Mk.IIc now.
Any ideas anyone?

Irish Air Corps / Spitfire Colour Schemes
« on: March 11, 2006, 12:37:48 pm »
I have just few more questions on anybody who was there with camera:
Have any-one took pictures of interiors - cockpits? I built 162 in 1:48 last year and it was impossible to get any info on them...

The same about sound of 161?

And finally I see "Aon" scribed just under the front windscreen, the same is on Grace Spitfire, ex.162. First, I thought, this is the name of this plane, but there is something else in it, obviusly, Does anybody know what this does mean. Thanks

Irish Aviation History / SE 5A, Hudson Mk.I of IAC
« on: February 04, 2006, 11:11:12 am »
I wonder if there's somebody, who made a reaserch or knows something about
- R.A.F. SE 5A colour scheme in which it -allegedly- should served with Irish Air Corps in 1923. This all red - silver wings seems to me as a highly speculative scheme

- Lockheed Hudson Mk.I IAC No.91. What colour scheme and registration it wore after sold to Aer Lingus in august 1945? '<img'>
