Irish Air Corps seeks EC135 simulator access

Flight International - http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/irish-air-corps-seeks-ec135-simulator-access-378105/
26 Oct 2012

The Irish Air Corps is seeking to place a two-year contract covering the provision of simulator-based training services in support of its Eurocopter EC135 fleet.

Potential contractors are required to provide 92h of simulator access per year for students accompanied by Air Corps instructors, according to a contract solicitation notice dated 19 October.

The selected company should also have "the capacity to deliver a NVG [night vision goggle] certified simulator or NVG simulation in the environment suitable to Irish Air Corps requirements", the document says.

Bidders have until 23 November to express interest in the requirement, a potential value for which has not been disclosed.

Flown from the service's Baldonnel air base near Dublin, two EC135s are used for rotary-wing pilot training tasks and other activities, such as utility transport. Flightglobal's Ascend Online Fleets database records the aircraft as having been delivered during 2005.

The Irish Air Corps also flies six AgustaWestland AW139 utility helicopters, fielded between 2006 and 2008.

Interesting, always wondered if part of the heli conversion course involved use of a sim. Have they ever used a sim for the 135 or 139 training? Would seem like a useful piece of kit especially for the early stages.

Irish Air Corps / AW139 - FLIR & Exercises?
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:43:25 pm »
Hi all

A question or two for those in the know:

1) Does the FLIR ball used for the 139 have a laser ranger, or is it just a plain old FLIR?

2) Have the bugs which appeared when the 139s were initially taken into service been overcome?

3) Do the AC have any plans to deploy a 139 or 2 abroad for exercises? Or alternately, any plans for neighbouring countries to bring some helis here for exercise?

Thanks for any info

Irish Air Corps / DFHS AS350 at Bal?
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:51:53 am »
Have seen what looks like a UK DHFS AS350 flying over south Dublin for the last 2 days. Are they over in Bal for a bit of flying these days?

Irish Air Corps / Parachute training for pilots
« on: June 13, 2008, 10:57:10 pm »
I always wondered about this one... do Air Corps pilots, nay pilots of any air arm for those who might know, undertake any sort of parachute training in terms of escape from a/c in distress? What type of parachute is in the seat of the Martin Baker's in the PC-9, and if a pilot did have to eject, are they able to control the parachute in any way after separating from the seat?

Irish Air Corps / AW 139 questions
« on: December 12, 2007, 11:53:44 pm »
Was wondering if the FLIR that has been bought for the AW 139s has arrived and been fitted yet? If so, is training taking place with it (and the NVGs) yet? When displaying the FLIR image, is that done on a cockpit display, or is there any chance a helmet mounted display is used? (Apologies if that's going a bit Apache-ish there.)

Also, are there any tentative plans or the like, to grab another 2 AW 139s after the next pair arrive? Say, a year or 2's time after that pair arrive? Same for the EC 135s, what's the chances of another pair in the future. I know the economy is going to be heading through a bit of a rough patch over the next while, just asking the question to see if there's any solid info on these points. (Not that we should be getting X or Y instead.) Thanks.

Irish Air Corps / Marchetti's and Dauphins
« on: December 28, 2004, 09:46:13 pm »
Seeing that I'm on a posting roll here, what's the current state of Marchetti and Dauphin operations? Are they still flying? Will the Marchetti's be sold to Belgium as was mentioned some time back? Thanks for the info.

Also, off the point, but when is the PC 9 sim going to be up and running (if not already)?

Irish Air Corps / Equipment Priorities
« on: August 25, 2004, 06:05:58 pm »
Further to Don Lavery's article in the Sunday Indo, last Sunday week, anyone know what the equipment priorities the AC gave to the DoD are? Is there any reference to getting transport a/c in the future, I understand there was a study going on into this.

Air Corps News / PC-9 article in Julys Cosantoir

There's a good article in this month's An Cosantoir magazine on the arrival of the PC 9. The Connect newsletter within it also has an excellent centrespread on the PC 9 and it's equipment.
