Site Information / Photos required for IrishAirPics.com
« on: May 06, 2003, 01:24:17 pm »
Hi Guys,

I'm looking to expand IrishAirPics.com and I need new photographs.

I want to cover all aspects of Irish Aviation, including that in Northern Ireland, and I would like also like to give Irish aviation photographers a place to display their work. All I ask is that there be an Irish connection to the photograph, e.g.

Pictures of any aircraft, Irish or Foreign, Civil or Military, taken by an Irish photographer

Pictures of any Irish aircraft, Civil or Military, at home or abroad

Pictures of any aircraft, Irish or Foreign, Civil or Military, taken at Irish airports, air shows and festivals

If you have any good photographs you would like displayed on IrishAirPics.com please click on the link below to use the picture upload facility to submit them, you no longer have to use email.  This list is by no means all inclusive or all exclusive, the above examples are just that, examples. If in doubt send it on!

Click here to submit your pictures

Thanks in advance,

Frank.  '<img'>

Site Information / New Avatars Added
« on: April 22, 2003, 10:05:41 am »
Hi Guys,

I've added some new avatars to the message board.   '<img'>

You can now choose from various world Air Force roundels including Afghanistan, Botswana, Angola, Canada, Mexico and the US.

Now I know some of you are probably thinking "what the hell are the likes of Botswana and Angola doing in there???"

Well the answer is I plan on adding a lot of world Air Force roundels to the message board and I started by adding some of the more unusual and exotic ones first.

I've also cleaned up the existing aircraft avatars and I've also added an Air Corps flash and the newer Light Strike Squadron badge.

If there is a picture you would like to have as a avatar please let me know and I'll do it up for you.

Regards,

Frank.

Site Information / Message Board Posting Guidelines

IrishAirPics.com Message Board Posting Guidelines

Please follow these guidelines when posting messages:

1. The user undertakes not to make use of or publish material that is obscene, libellous, defamatory or in violation of any right of any third party.

2. No user shall interfere or attempt to interfere in any way with information belonging to another person. Similarly no user shall make unauthorised copies of information belonging to another person.

3. The user must not undertake any actions that brings this website into disrepute.

4. Please note that any comment relating to your military service in the Air Corps / Defence Forces that is in breach of military regulations, may result in disciplinary action by the military authorities against the author of such comments.

5. Please refrain from announcing details in advance of foreign military aircraft movements, arrival times, location and the duration of their stay. Posting of this information by members of the Defence Forces / Air Corps may result in disciplinary action by the military authorities against the person who posts such details.

6. The Administrator reserve the right to ban any member from using this message board at their own discretion.

7. The Administrator reserve the right to delete or edit any posts that contain possibly sensitive information or have questionable content.

-------------------------------------------------

Hi Guys,

I've amended the posting guidlines to include these paragraphs:

Quote
5. Please refrain from announcing details in advance of foreign military aircraft movements, arrival times, location and the duration of their stay. Posting of this information by members of the Defence Forces / Air Corps may result in disciplinary action by the military authorities against the person who posts such details.

And

Quote
7. The Administrator reserve the right to delete or edit any posts that contain possibly sensitive information or have questionable content.

The reason for these ammendments is simple, it has been pointed out to me that certain undesirable groups & individuals watch this and other public message boards for details in advance of foreign military aircraft arrivals at both Baldonnel and other Irish airports.

We all know what has happened in the past and I'm sure that none of us want this to happen in the future, especially if it transpires that the information was obtained from this message board.

I think that it's safe to say that the Air Corps / Defence Forces monitor this and the other message boards / websites so please don't give them a reason to shut us down.

Please understand that this is NOT censorship, everyone posting on this board to some extent or other has a positive interest in the Air Corps, and I'm just looking out for the interests of the Air Corps / Defence Forces, the public and this message board.

There is no problem with saying that an aircraft was at Baldonnel or even with sending in pictures of the aircraft at Baldonnel, it's all just a matter of using some common sense.

I'll investigate the possibility of having a members only section if the demand is there.

If you have any questions or comments, or suggestions please don't hesitate to contact me, thanks for your understanding.

Regards,

Frank.

Site Information / New Picture Database
« on: June 20, 2003, 01:14:26 am »
Hi Guys,

You may or may not have noticed but I've added a picture database to the gallery sections of both the Air Corps and Helicopters sections of this website.

The reason for this is due to the phenomenal success of this website and the amount of pictures being submitted.  I've decided to set up a database where all the new pictures submitted to this site will be listed as it takes up too much of my time to be creating a new page for each new picture.  Also, because of this database, the submission to publication time is significantly reduced, as those of you who have recently submitted pictures will know.

I've added new pictures to the database, mostly of airliners as I've been out to Dublin Airport trying out my new digital camera, but there are also some new Air Corps pictures that have been submitted recently.

I've also started to transfer all the pictures on this website to this database. What this means is that you, the user, will be able to better narrow down your selection of picture without having to browse through numerous galleries.

Now this database is still being set up and it is being refined as I go along, but never the less it is working.  Pictures are displayed newest addition first, while the older pictures already on IrishAirPics.com are displayed last.

Click here for the IrishAirPics.com Picture Database

When you visit this page you will see a picture count, this count is take directly from the database so it is 100% accurate.  Right now as I post this message the count stands at 155 different pictures.

Please give me any feedback you may have or let me know if you have any problems using the database.

Frank.

Site Information / Avatars - Let me know what you want
« on: April 08, 2003, 11:49:30 am »
Hi Guys,

Since this board is still being set up my selection of avatars in rather limited.  If you spot a picture you would like to have as your avatar please let me know and and I'll set it up on the avatar list for you.

If you use full size images as your avatar it will slow down the site and the picture will more than likely look squished.

Site Information / New Moderator
« on: November 05, 2003, 09:54:10 pm »
Hi Guys,

As you might have noticed from the main message board page Silver is leading all the forums, in other words he is the moderator.

I have asked Silver to take on this job basically because I need a second pair of eyes with regards to running the message board, especially now that I have added the extra forums.

As I don't have proper internet access at home (palmtop only), I can only access the message board on the days that I'm working and seeing as I work a shift that rotates between the front end of the week and the back end of the week, I can effectively only monitor goings on for the days that I'm working, i.e. half the week only, the rest of the week is hit or miss.

Silver will help me to ensure that all posts follow the posting guidelines, no more, no less.

I have worked really hard on the website to get to where it is today in relation to content, respectibility & credibility, from what I have heard it is held in very high regard and I don't want all that ruined.  I'm sure all of you who use this website & message board will want to keep it that way.

So far this message board has kept above the scandal that has plagued other message boards and I want to keep it that way.

Thanks for your time Guys, and thanks to Silver for agreeing to become a moderator.

Frank.

Site Information / Board Changes
« on: October 21, 2003, 05:22:31 am »
Hi Guys,

Just to let you all know, as I mentioned in the Message Board Posting Guidelines post, I've created a "Members Only" section as a trial, you'll have to be logged in to read and post in this forum.

I've also turned image posting on, which means that you can attach images to your posts and have them appear on the board without having to get me to upload them to the server first.

I hope these changes are of some use, please let me know if you have any ideas or comments.

Irish Air Shows / Salthill Air Show, who's going?
« on: June 19, 2003, 08:06:47 pm »
Hi Guys,

Is anybody here going to the Salthill Air Show this year?

I know some of you guys from the IMO.com board will be going but for the guys who use this board only will you be there?

If you are going you should travel early, the traffic will be absolutely mental.  It's crazy when there just the air show but with a football final on in Salthill at the same time..... forget it!

If you can you should stay overnight, either that or leave plenty of time for travel.

I'll be there early and you won't be able to miss me..... I'll be the one wearing the green bomber jacket with an IrishAirPics.com badge on it, I'll have 2 cameras swinging out of my neck and I'll be running around like a kid in a toy shop at Christmas!

I'll be pretty hard to miss so make sure you say hello if you can catch me.

See you all there,

Frank.

On Saturday the 24th May at 1450 the Royal Air Force display team "The Red Arrows" will open the 2003 Heinken Cup match at Landsdowne road with a flypast of the stadium.

If you want to see their only full display in the Republic this year you'll have to be in Salthill on Sunday 6th July.

Irish Air Corps / Finner Dauphin no more
« on: July 15, 2003, 12:23:48 am »
Hi Guys,

Yesterday (Monday 14th July 2003) was the last day of Dauphin operations at Air Station Finner Camp and I was fortunate enough to be present at the small ceremony commemorating this event.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all of the last Air Corps Station Finner air, ground & fire crews for being so helpful and accommodating, I really appreciate it.

SAR operations with the North West have now been handed over from the Dauphin based at Finner to the S-61N based at Sligo Airport.

I took some nice pictures of the Dauphin with all the crews, along with pictures & video of the Dauphin's departure.

These pictures are very nice indeed so watch this space!

I'm currently on camp with the RDF and I am again next week so I won't get a chance to post most of the pics for a few weeks but I'll try and post one or two of the best before I go on the second camp.

Regards,

Frank
