An RAF pilot of 43 Squadron executes an emergency Landing  at Kuopio AFB, Finland when his nose gear suffers a hydraulic leak.
No 43 squadron has since been disbanded.

The F-104 Starfighter was a joke, nothing elegant about her.

I sure hope you're taking the mickey when you say there's nothing elegant about the F-104?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! It may have been a pig to fly, killed people (I don't mean the bad guys!), etc., but to my mind she still looks good and as for the sound from a low-level fly-past..................

Mikhail Simonov: Aircraft designer whose Su-27 is regarded as the best jet fighter of the 20th century has passed away in Moscow.

Hmm, depends on what criteria you pick, as there is a long list of potential claimants to that title, including at different times the F-4, F-15, F-16, F-86, Mirage(s), Hunter and several of the MiG designs which were built in large numbers and widely exported.

To say nothing of the elegant F-104, the Saab stable and even the Me-262.........

Rumour has it that PD and PF are due to go in March / April, with four new 320's joining the fleet. Further rumour that EI-DVM (320) will be painted in retro scheme - now that will be nice (if true).

My spies tell me that the move is load driven - also BMI may be doing the same..... It's not that they are uncomfortable - just have poor leg room, are narrow and the roof is close to you.
