Irish Air Corps / Future Air Corps ORBAT
« on: December 17, 2003, 11:14:41 pm »
I honestly don't know Silver. I can't see the Casa being switched to another operation. At least not yet. Then what about the King Air? The government jet?

Two types of aircraft? maybe it was a pointless statement meaning the AC will operate both helicopters and planes?!

I have no idea.. anyway..

Irish Air Corps / Coast Guard Heli's
« on: December 14, 2003, 06:51:08 pm »
Is the Irish Coast Guard helicopter service funded (entirely or otherwise) by the EU ?

If so, would the same funding apply to any Air Corps SAR helis that may be purchased ?

I recall reading that some of the Portugese Air Forces' new 12 x EH-101's were (part?) funded by the EU because of their SAR equipment/capabilities.

Irish Air Corps / Air Corps D.R.O.P.S vehicles ?
« on: November 19, 2003, 08:27:22 pm »
Hi Guys,

I've seen one or two D.R.O.P.S vehicles on the roads with Air Corps markings.

Every time I pass a DF vehicle on the road out of curiosity I have a glance at the unit plate and when I spotted the D.R.O.P.S naturally I looked and hey presto, Air Corps markings.

Regards,

Frank.

Irish Air Corps / Defence Force video(s).
« on: November 14, 2003, 06:56:06 pm »
FAO: IAS et al,

In another thread here, FiannaFail mentioned that there was an hour-long programme about the Naval Service on RTE back in 1996, and that it may be possible to get a video copy of this programme from RTE archives.
- likewise, a 1993 Air Corps heli video which I am looking for.

Well, I recieved a reply today from RTE re the NS programme, and they want €55 for a copy of the video !!!

Suffice to say, I won't be placing any orders     '[:sus:'

Irish Air Corps / Foreign deployment.

Theoretically the Dauphin should be a more capable A/C in this role but I'd Imagine the simplicity and reliability of the AIII as well as the various issues had with the Dauphin would make the AIII the only real option.

Irish Air Corps / Cessna replacement.
« on: June 19, 2003, 11:50:40 pm »
After observing the GASU Defender in action today - several very low passes - it got me thinking about what would be the best aircraft to replace the Cessnas.

The Defender certainly impressed me.
Would it be the best choice ?

Irish Air Corps / Where is P.Doff ?
« on: May 19, 2003, 06:28:33 pm »
What has happened to P.Doff ?

He was the best source of real news from within the AC.
Has he assumed a new nickname ?

Irish Air Corps / Naval Service Pilots.
« on: November 09, 2003, 03:13:27 pm »
Would it be a good idea or a bad idea to train Naval Service Officers (or NCO's) to operate helicopters from the Naval Service Helicopter Patrol Vessel L.E Eithne ?

I first came across this idea when I read one of the books about the history of the Naval Service.
The author suggested that naval personnel would be more suitable to operate helicopters from L.E Eithne (or any possible future HPV's) because (unlike AC pilots) they have gained their 'sea legs' - and could also perform other duties while onboard ship.

I personally think this would be the best route to take should we reinstate naval heli ops in the future.
