Aviation Waffle / UK "spares" - get your wish list ready

According to The Irish Times 12th Jan 2015, a new agreement is to be signed between the Irish and UK governments that

... will involve the Irish Army training British soldiers in peacekeeping operations as part of a wide-ranging deal involving closer co-operation between the two defence forces. Another aspect of the agreement provides that the Irish Army will be provided, free of charge, with equipment that is surplus to the requirements of the British army.

So, what relatively fresh ex-Army Air Corps or ex-RAF items might be of interest?

The current edition of 'Airfix Model World' (Jan 2015) has an excellent five-page article on the history of Fouga's in Irish Air Corps service. The magazine also includes a 6-page article on the Airfix IAC Fouga scale model, plus a centre page poster pull-out featuring IAC Fouga's in flight.

No performance penalty in relation to speed, but an increase in fuel burn. The gear is raised and lowered as required, it can be left down for short hops. If travelling any distance the gear will normally be up. The 92 differs to the 61 in relation to winching in that the gear has to be down to prevent EGPWS aural warnings.

Another S-92 query.

Having observed the Dublin machine operating over the city and off the coast, it appears to fly with the landing gear constantly down. Is this SOP or a feature of the individual aircraft? Is there a performance penalty for this and what's the reason for it?
