RAF's Nimrod R 1 Stay of execution
« on: March 09, 2011, 09:57:02 pm »

Just been briefed that 1 of the 2 remaining Nimrod R1 from Waddington will have a stay of execution of 90 days beyond the envisaged final date of 31st March. Which of the 2 aircraft it is, is yet to be confirmed - as is its projected sphere of operations.
51 Sqn has given aircraft XV249 special markings to commemorate more than three decades of service. The artwork depicts a goose, as used on the 51 Sqn crest. Does this mean that they expect some kind of air cover to be needed over Libya until June ?
