The Blades to display at Dublin Airport ?
« on: May 18, 2011, 01:18:46 pm »
I was checking out the Blades display dates for this year and was curious to see that they  have Dublin Airport confirmed  on the 28/05/2011

Is this part of  Aer  lingus's 75Th  celebrations & will it be the only display act attending

How did this event manage to go under the radar (no pun intended)

The Aer Lingus birthday bash is a private event and not open to the public.

 I take it that it'll mean road closures around the perimeter of the airport to the general public

What are the chances of the Aer Lingus to participate

some sort of celebrations open to the public  maybe to coincide with Bray Air Spectacular perhaps ?

I dunno about road closures at the airport, maybe someone else can answer that?

As far as I know all the action will be held on or around the disused runway 11/29.

I can't see the roads being closed.  They never have been for any events in the past that I can recall.

I thought 11/29 was used for GA aircraft  and as i recall a while back Logan Air used it when 10/28 was  busy with heavies

now that was a couple of years ago  though Frank !

love to see the The Retrojet A320 do a low flypast it shouldn't cause too much disruption to aproaching traffic as she could be given vectors out towards the northeast towards skerries and around a standard circuit  (depending on Wind direction) also there's enough parking space normally where the Busniness jets are parked to have Static aircraft

I take it the Iola will be there too? frank

joey,

I won't be there myself but from what I've heard Iolar and the retro jet will be there, maybe flyingki, as will the Blades, what else happens I don't know. I'm sure there'll be something along the lines of a bbq, bouncy castles and kiddies face painting.

Runway 11/29 is no longer used as a runway but is used as an overflow parking area from time to time.

I seen these charter airlines arrive yesterday  between 12 noon to around 17.30  packed with both FC-Porto & Sporting Brags football fans traveling to  the Europa Finals   a rear sight indeed

I'm assuming that Aer Lingus will keep a tight lip on the display schedule for fear of an invasion of plane spotters around the public setdown area near forest road which would be a prime viewing spot  IMO
