Tha camouflage for the IAC No.105 as they have it in the box is 'a bit' off. In another words, wouldn't relly on the instructions at all.
The kit itself is retooling of the old model, I believe. It's not bad proportionwise and the plastic is classical Airfix.

Ok, so the Airfix research might have been a bit lazy but here's my two cents; (que music, phil coulter or similar)

When I was a youngfella and my interest in the Air Corps was growing, I built hundreds of models. I didn't care that the camo scheme didn't match the box exactly at all. I had no idea about decal sheets or specialised shops and the glorious day I discovered a Heller Fouga in Easons I was made up! It got a silver and dayglo orange paint job with home made roundels and numbers. I had always wished to see an 'off the shelf' Air Corps aircraft in the shops.

My point is, the modellers on the forum here are good enough at what they do to spot the imperfections and correct them, but I bet there is a ten year old out there who cant wait to get his hands on the kit for the simple thrill of putting the Irish decals on it.

I have to agree with Broc, I haven't made models in years but when I found a Fouga kit in the shops I was over the moon, and I too had to make my own decals... Tracing paper and glue, looked rough as hell but the Fouga hung from my bedroom ceiling for years alongside my Air Corps heli models.

Kept my interest going for years.

Hi all,
Broc I totally disagree, are you saying that we should accept that it is OK for a commercial organisation to include information which is inaccurate ( not intentionally I might add) and at the same time take our money. Broc, ah sure what would a ten year old know anyway especially a Paddy. We modellers are a pedantic lot we put a lot of work and time into our hobby and might add that the modelling community is not  composed of ten year olds. Look at any of the websites and the modelling magazines. Sorry inaccurate information is not acceptable.

Frank would your attitude be the same if photography is concerned?

Sure, I still use tracing paper, too cheap to use a printer!

Gnat, I can see your point too, I suppose I should have said that seeing as Broc and myself appear to be of the same vintage, i.e. no such thing as the internet, we were possibly more content in the good auld days, I for one was, but I wasn't a serious modeller, I was making models as living in Galway I rarely saw real Air Corps aircraft. Occasionally I would see a Dauphin or Alouette flying over my house going to and from the army barracks or hospital but that was it.

I only modelled aircraft that were operated by the Air Corps and I was never any good at it, but it kept my interest going. Now I only buy small pre-made models of anything I can fit into a camera bag and still get around Ryanair's stupid 10kg carry on limit.

I knew I shouldn't have strayed into this one

I have a few IAC kits which I've built as per  my limited research and information I had at the time.
Are they accurate? No. Colours and boss and numbers are all over the place and wrongly done as I've found out latter, when I have gathered more information and found some new photographs unknown to me at the time of the build.
Am I lying wake at night and getting grey because of it? No.

I'm always saying it depends what do you expect from the kit.
Airfix does a great job in making affordable and relatively easy to assemble kits for the beginners. If beginner buys this kit and builds it and paints it according to the instructions that's OK.
If you want to build 'an Irish Hurricane' then work away. If you want to build a replica of the 105 then you would have to do a bit more research. That was my point.

A bit OT, there was uproar when one of the Chinese manufacturers /don't know which one now/ kept releasing kits of the Czech AF with the national insignia the wrong way. They were informed about their mistake a quite a few times by various people, but no, they kept at it. Until recently... But hey, doesn't matter as long as it's 'the CAF' machine  :fryingpan:

I am always slightly amused by comments regarding the accuracy of colour schemes and markings on Air Corps aircraft, having served in the Irish Air Corps many moons ago I can report that colour schemes and markings varied from time to time even on the same aircraft. When aircraft returned to service after overhaul that included a respray it was not unusual to find subtle changes with markings and sometimes overall colour. Indeed in some of the published photos this can clearly be seen. So I wonder how anyone can be so certain that this scheme for the Hurricane model kit contains errors, yes there may be differences from the 'official' scheme but official schemes were not always adhered to.
I for one am glad that Airfix have released this kit with an Air Corps scheme, but am still curious as to the errors included in the colour scheme for 105.
Anyone care to enlighten us kitbashers?

Amusing perhaps, but is that not what makes the subject of the Air Corps colour schemes all the more interesting ?
Of course you are correct, the history of the markings of Air Corps aircraft shows that it is almost correct to say each aircraft has to be treated as such on an iindividual basis. Especially post delivery and following a period in the maintenance unit and paint shop.

If this model was released when I was a kid I would have been delighted.  In my younger years, I built many a kit and painted it in the Air Corps colours including roundals!!!  If your that serious of a modeller you will improvise to get the model truely accurate.  Do you think all the Airfix models of other Air Force around the world are accurate,  I doubt it.  For such a small air arm as ours I think it's nice to see one of our aircraft immortalised by Airfix(if even a bit inaccurate).
At least it will mean some enthuasiastic 10 year old won't have to paint markings on to a 1/72 scale model.

Hey Guys,
I dont understand this, ah shure its ok attitude as long as it has Oirish markings.
If that Hurri had RAF marking and it included so much incorrect instructions as to the colours (the correct ones I would like to know) there would be a god awful kick up.
Why accept crap, after all our money is not! But some of you guys seem to think it is ok

Gnat, can you not accept the fact that different people possibly want different things from the same kit?

It's not the "Orish" factor at play here. I for one only wanted Irish Air Corps models hanging from my bedroom ceiling when I was younger, once they resembled an actual Air Corps aircraft I didn't give a flying fiddlers. I wasn't a serious modeller, I never could be, I didn't have nor still don't, have the skill or patience, I take photos now instead.

If you don't like the kit then just don't buy it. What's stopping you buying a Hurricane model from another manufacturer and getting your hands on some MaxDecals decals? What's stopping you painting it correctly yourself?

Frank, I believe that you are still missing the point, as I said the majority of modellers are not children and if they were by any chance then I would say ok fine they are only starting. The same applies in your case to photography, it is a cause of enjoyment when a youngster takes an even moderatley good photograph . We all congratulate him, would we say the same if you put up a krappy picture on the site ? I am a modeller I expect better from a commercial organisation with resources to produce an accurate item.
