RAF & IAC helicopters to drop food to NI farms
« on: March 27, 2013, 04:35:31 pm »
Story from UTV. RAF and IAC helicopters involved in relief efforts across the North.

I don't suppose there were many Chinooks sitting around in Britain given the currently military position.

Just out of curiosity ... did they use "Irish" or "AW" callsigns during the operation?

'Alpha Whiskey' is used for a singleton and 'Wolf Section' for a formation with Wolf 1/2/3 etc being the callsigns of individual aircraft in that formation.
'Wolf' derives from AW-139 'Wolfhound', the official name of the type in service .
'Irish' is used when an Air Corps aircraft travels abroad so the jury will be out on that one  :ireland:  :unitedkingdom:

So if they were a pair it would be Wolf unless of course you heard Medevac 112 which was also busy that night.
