Aviation News / Airblue Passenger Plane Crashes In Pakistan.
« on: July 28, 2010, 01:29:35 pm »

Plane went down this morning ( our time ) outside Islamabad. 146 dead. God rest them. The BBC also did a chronology of " recent " plane crashes. Incredibly enough there have been almost 100 passenger plane crashes since 1998. Flying is safer than driving eh ?

Irish Air Corps / Some Points.
« on: April 30, 2010, 02:47:39 pm »
I see Frank locked the last thread which is why I had to start this one. I have a question, but I will get to that in a minute. Once again we have certain people having a go at me on the last thread, yous would need to grow up hi. Are you interested in having a proper Air Corps with attack capability or not ? Anyway, yes I will post pics if you so desire after the meeting with the DM.

Next up the comment about telling a politician and national security. You dont need to worry, I wont be giving the TD the details, they dont need to know, they will facilitate a meeting with the DM. I assure you all this plan is doable - even in these shocking monetary times.

I also had to laff at the chap who said Im not an aircraft consultant. Where does it say one has to be an expert to come up with a good idea ? History is littered with inventions and ideas which came from people who were scoffed at as " non experts ".

Now to my question, which on the face of it may seem ludicrous. Here it is. Would the Air Corps actually want 6 or 8 L159s when my plan is proven feasible ? I would have thought so, but maybe theres someone on here who will tell me different.  :ireland:

Irish Air Corps / That Air Corps Jet Plan At Last, Or Is It ?
« on: April 26, 2010, 10:59:50 pm »
Well I see Bluefox tried to shoot me down again but however. So, to the plan. Well, I cant reveal it right now. I had second thoughts and decided it might be counter productive and operationally unwise to tell the whole world. Instead, Im seeing a TD with an interest in my proposal in the next two weeks. After that Im for Dublin to see the Defence Minister. Yes, the plan is doable and affordable. Thats all I can say right now. Also Bluefox, Im not a kid so stop patronising me. Dont mistake my enthusiasm for ignorance. Im a qualified teacher well over the age of 40, so cut the c**p please. Cheers.  :sleepy:

Irish Air Corps / Would You Ban Lootenant Pigeon ?
« on: April 12, 2010, 12:38:05 am »
Frank informs me on another thread that I am the " most complained about poster in years " and that some people have asked for me to be banned. Heres your chance to have your say. I must state that I find it INCREDIBLE that anyone has this attitude. I also find it amazing that Im some kind of bete noir and the worst in years.  I will take Franks word for it though. I have written nothing deserving of a ban. I have asked legitimate questions, made some suggestions and mentioned the North. So what ?

Debate is healthy, democracy is healthy. Whats wrong with some of the people on this board ? Is reality too much for yous ? I have still to reveal my proposal for the AC Jets. I also feel we should have these jets regardless of Primary Radar considerations. I will continue to say this and I will outline my proposal in a new thread. Thats if Im allowed to... :airforce_rolleyes:

Irish Air Corps / Why, how and what jets the IAC should get.
« on: March 10, 2010, 01:52:14 am »
So Here it is. After some delay, as youll see I have been researching. I intend initially to say WHY we should have jets and then WHAT we should have and HOW much they cost. When I see what your responses are I will then post HOW we can get them and afford them.

Why We Need Jets

First of all the PC-9s are fine planes and they are good to have as lead-in trainers. Keep them. However they arent jet interceptors. I will not insult everyones intelligence by telling you why we need jets although I am AMAZED that some on here think we dont. If you havnt worked it out by now you never will. Briefly there are at least 3 defence based scenarios why we need jets.

1. A hijacked airliner heading for the centre of Dublin, Knock, Baldonnell, wherever, on a suicide mission.
2. A possible Civil War scenario in the North, which can happen ANY time. Dont let the Peace Process fool you.
3. Attack by foregn forces, unlikely, but not impossible.

However one of the main reasons we need interceptors is NOTHING to do with defence. Its to do with holding our heads up and being taken seriously. I dont believe that any modern first world country with an air arm can call itself an air arm with no jets. Its a matter of NATIONAL PRIDE. Its a joke frankly. A bad joke at that. This is not to denigrate the IAC but rather our various governments who have presided over this situation and who have allowed this to happen for years. You can add a few more reasons to have jets if you want.

What Jets We Should Buy

So having established that we REQUIRE jets what next ? Of course the first cry is theres no money. Incredibly some of the people on this board actually swallow that. What UTTER rubbish ! Of course theres money and we CAN afford it,as I will prove in my next post. Yes, ok, we arnt going to be buying 25 Saab Gripens or 15 F-16s BUT, we can still get very good, up to date, interceptors at a very reasonable price. Two spring immediately to mind, the British BAE Hawk and the not dissimilar Aero Vochodny ALCA 159 from the Czechs.

I believe that both these aircraft were looked at as possible IAC replacements. As a matter of interest the South Koreans are selling 17 used Hawks for £41 million. Crazy stuff eh ? But it gets better. I say we get between 6 and 8 Czech ALCAs and heres why.

ALCA means Advanced Light Combat Aircraft. Heres what it can do. Nearly 600 mph at sea level. Full HUD and radar capacity. Can use Sidewinders, Mavericks or ANY other NATO ordinance. Basically its EXACTLY what we need. Now pin your ears back because what Im about to say is true.

The IAC can get 6 ALCA 159s to include Simulators. Spares. Technical Equipment. Full Pilot and Tech Training and some ordinace for the princely sum of ?

$58,000,000 Or thats
£37,000,000 Or thats
42,000,000 Euros.  ********

Sorta makes some other deals seem not so good eh ? Now a MERE 42,000,000 Euros spread over 10 years is just 4.2 million a year. Frankly if this State cant afford that we should shut up shop right now. Yes, we know it will cost a bit more than that with fuel etc and weapons but we already spend money on fuel and weapons so whats a few million extra ? Thats it. We can have jets. Get on with it. Now if people still think we cant afford that I actually have another idea for where to get the necessary 42 million. I will post that after I see some replies.

******** How do I know this ? Because Aero Vochodny just did this exact deal for the Bolivian Air Force. They might even throw in an extra plane if we send them some Guiness. Cheers.

PPS. People should wake up in Ireland. This is the ONE state in western Europe that actually DOES need jets. We live on the most politically and militarily UNSTABLE island / country in Europe outside of the Balkans. You need to look ahead at what MIGHT happen in the next 10 to 15 years, not what the situation is now. BTW the situation now isnt that good either, contrary to popular belief.

Over but not out !  :airforce_wink:

Irish Air Corps / How Many Of Us Think The IAC Should Have Jets ?
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:25:28 am »
I just wondered how many of us think the IAC should have jets / interceptors. Im assuming that we will get a 100% vote in favour but lets just see. :airforce_cheesy:

Irish Air Corps / Fouga Magister Irish Sighting
« on: January 03, 2010, 04:56:50 am »
So this is a question plus a bit of info. The question is ? Where are all the Fougas ? Are they in storage ? I know theres one in the Museum and one in Cork but what about the rest ? Where they sold on or scrapped ? Also, of the IAC Fougas which are still in existence could any of them fly again ? What about having an IAC historic flight squadron ?

Now the info. About 3 years ago in the summer my father was sailing ( as volunteer paying crew ) off the Galway coast in one of those 3 masted tourist schooners when he said they all got a thrill when a silver and orange Irish Air Corps JET buzzed them low at about 400 feet and then zipped off into the distance. It " had a distinctive tail like a swallow " me das words. Now, supposedly the Fougas were retired in the late 1990s so the question is, what was one of them doing in the air 3 years ago ? I saw another strange aircraft over Donegal about 3 years ago too but I will tell ye about that later.

Scale Aircraft Modelling / New 1/72 Scale Pilatus PC9 Model Kit Released !
« on: December 30, 2009, 12:26:45 pm »
Im sticking this here so that more people see it and maybe the guys at the museum can pick up on it. The good news is that finally someone has released a PC9 Kit in 1/72 scale ! Ive been waiting for this for years. Its a resin kit and is limited edition by L & M Models of Slovenia / Croatia. I think it comes with Slovenian or Mexican decals but Maxdecals in Ireland do IAC Pilatus decals so thats grand. I only found out about this new kit in the last few days. If you all already knew about it then forgive me for boring you. :airforce_cool:

Irish Air Corps / Questions
« on: December 30, 2009, 12:03:34 pm »
It strikes me that some of the things Im asking are common knowledge or have been covered on the forum before so please excuse my ignorance in the meantime. Heres another one. The orange tanks on the Fouga wing tips are for fuel I assume ? Also are these tanks also now used on the PC9s sometimes ? Because I thought I saw a picture somewhere with tanks on the PC9s.

Irish Air Corps / Hello Everyone ! Im New.
« on: December 27, 2009, 08:01:38 pm »
Hello folks. Just joined today having checked out the site a few times plus having looked at all the brilliant pics of IAC planes. Im from Derry, in me 40s and I still live here. Im an aircraft nut of course and a keen modeller, just finished the Heller kit of the IAC Fouga Magister 1/72 scale and its number 220. I have to say I have always been immensely proud that we have our own Air Force and I have always taken a keen interest in it. Its great to finally find a site where other like minded persons reside.

I love the PC-9s and was very sorry to hear about the recent accident, God rest the pilots and may their families find peace. I have a few questions about the IAC as presently constituted but I will post those later. Regards to you all and a Happy New Year.

Paul.  :airforce_smiley:
