Has anyone seen or do they have any pictures of 270 taken since she went in for repairs they can share?

How extensive is/was the damage under the skin?

Could happen to anyone. Glad there were no injuries.

Irish Air Corps / 270
« on: July 17, 2012, 01:06:52 pm »
There's been little or no further coverage in the media of the incident involving 270 and her crew since it happened.

I'm just curious as to how those involved are recovering and if there is any news of the fate of the airframe.

Being reported elsewhere that the aircraft assigned to the role has been involved in a wire strike while on call to the Limerick region.

Hope all are OK.

Best of luck to all involved.

Does anyone know if the operation is 1 x EC135 "on call" and the second on stand by or is it only one aircraft deployed in total?

Secondly, is it operated under the same rules as the sister 135's in the GASU on 24x7? I assume they will suffix "Ambulance" to the call-sign when patients are on board.

Forward flight off the deck with the elevators deflected for a nose down orientation and the thing lifts up, up and away .... there must be hardly any aerodynamic lift going on.

Please Note that the 32 Hawks required for the formation will all head South on the 17th May to base at RNAS Yeovilton in preparation for the final full dress rehearsal over Windsor Castle the following week.

That should make things interesting around Heathrow.

Thought I saw it over the eastern end of the city heading east (perhaps VFR along the river) along with a high wing single engine in formation. But like Ascot, it was just the old Mk.I from a distance.

Aviation News / Re: USS Enterprise to visit Dublin?
« on: April 02, 2012, 03:08:07 pm »
Somewhat out of date, but I believe it reflects the current position.

http://historical-debates.oireachtas.ie/D/0384/D.0384.198811150055.html

Irish territorial waters, under internation law, extend 12 nautical miles from the coast, the economic zone is 200
nm. Easy enough to park just ouside either and fly in a formation for the game if that's the intention. That said, the Oireachtas reply sates not allowing nuclear vessels "vist ports" so dropping anchor out in Dublin Bay might tecnhnically not be in breach of the policy. Either way, I doubt a Nimitz class could fit into Dublin Port.

So you never know. Wasn't there some concern that the JFK might have had nuclear weapons on its visit back in the '90's? It was parked off Dun Laoghaire as it couldn't fit into he port.

Wonder if they'd let any of the IAC guys in the back seat of an FA-18 for a lauch/landing?

You'll get no argument out of me on that.

However, accelerating down a runway, with what looks like some level of flaps extended, not checking the trim, or double checking the Vr calculations and keeping well below it isn’t, to put it mildly, big or cleaver. What did they expect to happen?

Wasn’t/isn’t there a guy in the UK who did/does runway runs in an EA Lightning without getting airbourne?
