Chipmunk 173 on Static Display @ Dromod
« on: November 19, 2007, 04:35:39 pm »
I has been pointed out to me that while I have uploaded a photo of Chipmunk 173 on display at Dromod to the Gallery, not everyone on the Message Board checks out the Gallery on a regular basis & at lease one guy missed it !

So, here is the link :

Great to see Chipmunk 173 and Provost 184 looking so well at Dromod. I always liked the Orange dayglow. Thanks for posting Joe.

Well spotted Tony, our old friend Philip Bedford went to a lot of trouble to get the correct Orange Dayglow, not a drop of Red Dayglow in sight !

God what a blast from the past. Back in the good old days before ear defenders we used to call 173 "The Tractor". The noise of going overhead or on a ground run was something else. 1900 max RPM on a ground run was a good return.

Hi there,
With all due respect to the Dromodites,a (partially)fabric-covered aircraft won't last long outdoors. They'll be pulling it back indoors to be cleaned up again in a year or two.No disrespect to the lads there, but I wish they'd concentrate on a few rather than the many, as so much of their stuff is rotting into the ground for want of attention.

Point understood by the guys at Dromod, but their Chipmunk, Provost & Vampire were all rescued from the dump at Baldonnel 25+ years ago & are only extent because of their hard work. The Vamp is kept under cover while the Chipmunk & Provost receive almost daily attention. I know you wish them well but sometimes when you are cold, wet & working in the dark such comments are as welcome as seeing the Leitrim Football team lining up one at a time to kick you in the groin ! There are only a handfull of them & no corporate sponsors in sight. They have seen over the years much of Irish aviation heritage go overseas because nobody gave a dam & are have begged for what they have & paid for it themselves. Best way to see that the aircraft get properly accommodated is the get in the car, drive there & pay in to see them.

Hi JD,
I have voted with my feet, last year, and my family and I spent a very enjoyable afternoon there, en route to our holidays. They especially liked the run on the section of railway and Mr Kennedy was a delight to listen to.I urge everyone to pay a visit.Dromod isn't that far away.

Well said GttC.
For anyone interested in a visit :

The Dublin - Sligo train stops right next to the exhibits. Pub across the road does grub & beer !

Here's a link to their web site :

http://www.irish-railway.com/

No harm dropping them an email in advance.
