Bi-planes at the Don
« on: September 20, 2008, 11:23:19 am »
Not sure if it's a secret but noticed 2 bi-planes land on Thursday before lunch about 15mins apart. Bus came out to meet them and lot's of activity around them. Didn't see them leave but they were gone from their parking spot a couple of hours later.

Damn binoculars lens are smashed and didn't notice until I tried to get a closer look!!! :duh:

Anyone know what was going on? Both seemed to come from Weston direction.

There were two Tiger Moths and one Stampe SV4C for the Flying Films Reunion. A get together of pilots and technicians involved during the making of Blue Max,  Darling Lily etc. Great to see a lot of the older faces present.
EI-AWP came from Abbeyshrule.( the little fat fella in the picture pretending to take a picture you will know as contributor to this forum, Joe Mac Dermott) :rotfl:
EI-AHI, J J Sullivan brought it up from Wexford
EI-BAJ came from Trim.
All in lovely condition.

Thanks for that Tony. Great to see them.

As a bizarre coincidence my Dad was an extra in the Blue Max. In one scene he led a party of Germans caputring a pilot who had crash landed (George Pepard I think)!!

Dave Bruton brought Tiger Moth EI-AWP over from Abbeyshrule.

Brendan Bruton (no relation) brought Stampe EI-BAJ in from Trim.

& JJ Sullivan flew Tiger Moth EI-AHI in from Wexford.

Event hosted by the Air Corps & sponsored by CityJet. A lot of effort & thought went into organising this first Reunion.

BTW Tony, that was very hurtful ! You know I am very a very sensitive sole !!
