In fairness, all branches of our Defence Forces do a good job, usually with little praise.

However, while the NS was once regarded as the 'cinderella' of the DF's, it seems the AC now holds that title !

It is the case that the Army always gets priority and this is unlikely to change in the forseeable future (unless the AC and NS commanders are placed on an equal footing with the Army COS - very unlikely though   '<img'> ).

I never said the AC & NS didn't deserve more funding, I was taking issue with Joey's comment that the Army only 'play' at being soldiers and don't offer as much 'value for money' as either of the other branches.

If people are going to make sweeping statements they'd want to know what they're talking about.

Im a NUIG student with a keen interest in aviation. Im a member of a local flying club and its costing me an arm and a leg to feed my addiction!

With regard to the Air Corps, I think its under valued in the work that it does with the resourses it has. Unlike the army (who play soliders) it offers a service of Fishery protection, SAR(although some may disagree) etc etc. So if given the choice, I'd spend more on the Air Corp and the Navy, surely an island needs them more? Anyway, thats my two cents!

You said the Air Corp provided a real service, as opposed to the Army which plays at being soldiers. That implies that the Army do not offer a service to the state, therefore not offering value for money.

And before I get eaten for saying that the army only play soldiers, I know they go abroad on peacekeeping missions, Im talking about the day to day work in Ireland.

I was told that the Irish Navy is the only navy in the world where they issue you with a bicycle so that you can cycle home for your dinner!

You obviously know nothing about the day-to-day activities of the army either. Cash & prisoner escort, internal security, EOD, ambulance cover, flood relief - all provided by the army.

Get a clue before you start making statements like that.
